The H-King Sopwith Camel is a beautiful replica of this well-known World War I British single-seater biplane fighter. It is built from balsa and ply to provide a lightweight, strong airframe, which is then covered in a lightweight film covering in an authentic color scheme. The scale detail is added using accurately molded plastic parts, and the cabane struts and landing gear components come pre-formed.

The Sopwith Camel was a British World War I single-seater biplane fighter that was introduced to the Western Front in 1917. Like most planes of this era, it was made of a wooden box-like structure covered in fabric. It was powered by a powerful rotary engine which made it highly maneuverable in the hands of an experienced pilot, making it perfect for dogfights at low altitudes. It also had twin Vickers machine guns firing through the propeller and became known as the best fighter plane of the Great War.

This version of the H-King Sopwith Camel comes as an ARF (Almost Ready to Fly), it will require the addition of a motor, ESC, servos, battery, and RC equipment. Some recommendations are made below for the extra equipment required to complete the model. There is some assembly to do such as fitting the wings, tail components, and landing gear, but all this is very straightforward using the step-by-step instruction leaflet you can download from the "Files" section.

The Sopwith Camel is a fantastic plane to fly, looks great in the air, and will have heads turning at your local flying field.

one thing only

well the sopwith came in a good package, after the full assembly i look to the wings and i realize that the upper wing was not flat but turn so when i flew the plane i had to trim the alerons a lot to compensate the flight, beside of that its a very wolfy plane to fly so its not recomended for a beginner pilot

Really nice model

Aug 26, 2021

This model went together very easily and exactly as per the instruction manual. There is a slight gap between the horizontal stab and the cut-out in the fuse but I filled that with some scrap balsa. Also, my cowl magnets didn't quite line up. The included stickers are pretty rubbish and not very scale - you may want to replace these?
But these were pretty minor issues and the finished model looks and flies great (with a gyro/stabiliser.) I use a 1300mAh lipo with 2oz of weight on the motor box to balance.
I do think it's pretty pricey for what it is though, hence the 4 stars for value.

Great build quality

Aug 11, 2021

I don't have this in the air yet, but the components are nicely built, light and true, with good quality covering and finish. The supplied wooden prop is way too big for the aircraft - come down to about a 9 x 6. or even 9 x 4 for scale flight. Overall a very nice kit and recommended.

A nice looking plane, but...

Jul 20, 2021

Bought this pricey plane and initially quite impressed. That is until I started to install servos in the wings. Strings were conveniently provided to fish the servo leads through the wing however it appears that the openings (holes) in the ribs won't allow the connector ends to pass through. So either you have to cut through the coating or cut off the servo connectors and re-solder to get them through.
