    Product Description

    The H-King Sopwith Camel is a beautiful replica of this well-known World War I biplane fighter. It is built from balsa and ply with a film covering and has molded plastic parts for that realistic look.


    The Sopwith Camel was a British World War I single-seat biplane fighter that was introduced to combat in 1917. Like most planes of this era, it was made of a wooden box-like structure covered in fabric. It had a rotary engine that gave it some unusual maneuverability. It also had twin Vickers machine guns firing through the propeller and was a very successful fighter although not the easiest to control for inexperienced pilots. As well as being used by the Royal Flying Corps it was also flown by the Royal Naval Air Service.


    As a plug and fly (PNF) model, the H-King Sopwith Camel comes with pre-applied covering film and stickers plus the molded plastic cowl, guns and wheels provide a very realistic look. All electrics come pre-installed including a 2212-1000KV motor, 20A ESC, and 4 x 9g servos. There is some building to do such as fitting the wings, rudder, and wheels before flying can be done. You will also need to supply a 2200mAh 3S battery and radio system to get it flying.


    The Sopwith Camel is a fantastic plane to fly and will have heads turning at your local flying area. This is one plane not to miss out on.

    Sold as 'PNP' it was annoying to find the motor connected incorrectly so if you follow the manual it means removal of wings to correct it. There is no 'Y' connector for the ailerons.
    A nice model just poor quality control.

    Extremely poor quality hardware. None of the supplied bolts nuts and screws work. Cowl was destroyed in shipping. Yes value is cheap but will need all new hardware and glass work repair to cowel. I would not purchase another one.

    This is a pretty plane. Solid construction, good deal for the price. The biggest drawback is the Center of Gravity. With such a short nose, the weight required to bring the plane to level at the right spot is pretty high, even with the battery in place. This is discouraging, but probably attributable to the scale accuracy. The old rotary engines were very heavy and demanded a short nose to avoid having to build a longer fuselage, which would result in a less maneuverable aircraft. The only solution I can offer is to add lead. Lots of it. It would have been nice to have the manufacturer estimate the weight required, and addressed it in the instructions.

    Sopwith Camel a challenge

    the balsa airframe is well built and survive 3 attempted maiden flights. In the end the CG as stated in the manual is incorrect. Closer to 60 mm from the leading edges. Using recommend 2S 200mah battery you can not even get the CG to balance at the recommended 70mm. Added about 170 gms of weight up front, most of it actually glued to the cowl. Storage for the battery is extremely tight. Also a couple of the control rod links on the ailerons use a ultra small set screw. I have very small hex wrenches but none this small. Replaced landing gear with custom built piano wire. Gear was nice but keep getting bent during the rough landing which were causes by the CG issue. Flying with stabilization which has helped as CG still a little in question. Some parts of this model are great and nicely built and some other points are frustrating. Not for the novice at all.

    Not bad but how?

    The airplane arrived without any problem to the EU, tracking worked well. The 3S 2200mAh 20-25C lipo fit perfect in the battery holder tray. The brushless motor arrived with faulty front bearing (not a big problem, but just for the records). The fuselage was faulty too, but the Support Team gived a best and quick solution and sent me another new and perfect fuselage from HongKong with express shipping. Thanks for it. Perfect service. The landing gear is only a joke, i made a new landing gear from spec. alu and the back legs are much longer to bend the whole system forward to prevent nose overs at landings. BUT the biggest problem is the COG. The manual says 70mm on upper wing, tested... ideal for NASA style hoovering, but this is a parkflyer and not a rocket. Now i set the cog on 65mm and i will remaiden it, but the weather is windy. If someone can or wanna give an advice, please google 3294027-H-King-Sopwith-Camel (rcgroups).

    For Users: Does your Biplane go into a deep dive, when the Engine has stopped? Remedy: Put both Wings 1 cm down (each), Engine if possible 1 cm up (at least). Align both wings in parallel. If the Plane still dives: Align Engine further down. If it rears up: Motor further up. And something else: I extend the Fuselage-Nose for 3 cm to keep the CG.
