Product Description

The B-17 Flying Fortress remains one of the most famous allied bombers of WW2. Although it served in every theatre of the war, it was in the European Theatre of Operations (ETO) with the renowned 8th Air Force in particular, that this sturdy and well armed heavy bomber flew its way into the history books.

Building on the success of our original HobbyKing "Memphis Belle" model we have redesigned this huge 1875mm wingspan warbird and now bring to you the best flying and best looking rendition of this iconic heavy bomber available anywhere in this size.

Our fantastic model is simple and fast to assemble right out of the box with all of the servo's and ESC's pre-installed. It is made from EPO foam, so it's as tough as you would expect and as the one piece wing is removable, it is also very practical to transport.

The pre-fitted electric scale wheels retract forward like the real aircraft and are large enough to tackle almost any surface. There is also plenty of power on tap from the four upgraded 850kv brushless motors. Counter-rotating props make zero torque, smooth take off's, the order of the day and with pre-fitted split flaps, landings are also stress-free.

But it's the attention to detail on this version that is impressive. Panel lines have been reduced and two new accurate scale colour schemes are now available. Olive drab/grey and overall silver. These two schemes represent the vast majority of B17's that went into action and as an additional feature we've also included a choice of two 8th Air Force decal sets for each color scheme as well as an optional chin turret so that you can create either an early "F" or later "G" variant.

As a Flying Fortress our model also bristles with guns, with top and ball turrets as well as tail, nose and waist gun positions. Dummy Wright Cyclone engines are finished with three blade counter rotating scale props and hubs and finally, working navigation & landing lights add to the overall realism level of this impressive model.

Beneath the surface our B17 has been beefed up with additional wing bracing and of course, she has been test flown extensively and it's in the air that this model really comes into its own.

You will be struck at how easy it is to fly, almost like a powered glider at times and even though it's more than capable of performing non-scale aerobatics including loops and rolls, it is at lower speeds that it looks every bit the heavy bomber.

With its impressive wingspan, low passes translate into a real presence in the air and the sound of those four props driving it forward just adds to the experience.

Our B17 is a scale pilot's dream model. It's a big airplane that looks great, flies beautifully and definitely has the "wow" factor that will have heads turning wherever and whenever you fly it.

I got two of the 1875mm B-17 (V2) Olive. They arrived with no shipping damage. Packaged two to a carton. Very scale looking and seems to be well refined in form and parts fitting together. I had planned on taking my time with details and assembly during the winter months to prepare for the flying season. I am so happy to have the HobbyKing B-17 Olive. I am looking forward to flying it a lot and expect it to perform very good. I hope to always have this model ready to go to the field to fly as often as conditions permit , and that HobbyKing keeps me supplied with what I need when I need , to maintain, repair, or replace it so that I can continue to enjoy flying the B-17 for years to come. This is yet another great plane from hobbyking, I have several and am always impressed by the detailed quality and value for money of these models.
They go together so easily and you are in the air in no time.

i love the looks of this thing, it's also very well put together. i put a 6pin plug on the wires going to the tail so i just have to plug in 1 plug and screw in 2 screws to put the whole thing together.
the sound is amazing with those 4 motors, allthough i find it a little bit lacking in power, and seriously lacking aileron authority. you need to fly this plane with rudder!
also due to the big size and low weight it doesn't seem to like wind alot, i leave it at home when there's more than 25km/h winds. long flight times with a zippy 5000mah 3s. a bit expensive though, i waited for a sale to buy it.

Very nice plane, Flies very well, I am using a Zippy compact 3s 5000 batt. and 1.5 oz. of weight in nose to balance CG.(with that battery) Looks really good in the air, and lands very nice with flaps. so far I like this bird.. I would get another one. Thanks to tiredIron on RC groups, I bought this.

I bought this one to replace the 1600mm B17 that crashed due to RX loss. Looks really bigger that the 1600mm. Quick delivery from the European warehouse without damage. Nice finish overall. Be aware that not all four decals sets are available: there're two sets for the olive B17 and the two others for the silver one.
Assembly is OK but: motor cowls are a pain in the ***, it took an hour to fit them without blocking the motors; Props look really cheap, blades are not in the same rotation plane; although the fuselage is huge, don't expect to access the inside and I had a hard time finding the right spots for the two ESS sound transducers; CG is documented /-40mm from wing LE but even with 2 batteries in the far end of the nose there's no way to get to that value so I still wonder because the 1600mm B17 has its CG 110mm from LE and a CG calculator gave me 130mm. I guess the maiden flight will give the answer and will eventually determine the value for money...
