This high quality Katana has been built to satisfy both 3D pilots and precision aerobatic flyers. It features huge control surfaces and a light wing loading, the perfect recipe for some extreme aerobatics!

The build quality is quite superb and is both strong and light, the covering is expertly applied and the attractive colour scheme is ideal for orientation. The glass fiber cowl is nicely painted and lightweight to keep the flying weight down. The supplied hardware is excellent and this model offers an easy and quick build due to large amount of pre-fabrication. This kit includes the hardware to go with either a glow or electric build, making it very versatile. Wings are plug in as you would expect to make transportation easy and the large canopy is of course removable for easy Lipoly changing.

This very attractive Katana offers superb performance on the reccomended set up for both the 3D pilot and the sport flyer, the .46 class models are popular as they fly like a large scale plane but are relatively inexpensive to build and are very practical. This Katana is the perfect all round model for the intermediate to experienced pilot. It looks good, flys great, is practical and doesnt break the bank!

Arrived well packed and undamaged. Build quality is great as is the covering! Overall the plane feels very solid. Only drawbacks are that the cowl is very thin fiberglass and cracks easily, and there is no throttle servo tray, so be ready if you are going the glow route. I chose an O.S. .50SX for a powerplant so, we will see how she goes. More after maiden!!

Flies like it is on rails. I haven't found a bad flight characteristic yet. OS 40 glow motor with Futaba radio gear and Corona receiver. Box was missing throttle servo tray and wing mounting bolts but that was easy enough to replace. Don't glue the elevator hinges onto the horizontal stab before you mount the stab.. it wont fit with it pre-glued! I found that out the hard way! Other than that an easy build.

Quality is ok for the price. Its no 3DHS plane, but it works. The flight characteristic are weird. It flys great straight and level, but when you go to pull out of something or recover from a blender, it really wants to snap over. If stalls as if it is tail heavy, but I don't think it is. If you have any ideas as to why it wants to snap when you pull out of maneuvers, please tell me.

Hi, I love this little plane.

My setup is using an OS 55 nitro with a 13x4.5 Turnigy wooden slow fly prop. COG is as per manual. Has heaps of pull and flies nice and straight without any bad tendencies.

I fly IMAC and came 3rd in my class with this plane!

There are a few things to fix, first I swapped all the plastic clevises, I broke a few just looking at them. Next the tank is too small for a nitro engine and needed to be replaced with a larger tank (no issue for electric setup) The elevator joining section is too weak and needs to be reinforced. The landing gear mounting is a bit weak too (pulled that out on a bad landing because of the small tank)

Overall a nice looking little plane, a few things to fix but at this price you won't find any better. Good job HobbyKing!

Part 2 of review. Have completed model, and flies really well...BUT and it's a big but, on the second flight, in a level pass over the field, the entire left half of the horizontal stabiliser and elevator parted company from the fuselage.

It was only luck that this wasn't the side the servo was installed on, as the remains of the model made a perfect landing.

On examining the now dissembled detached half of the structure, it appears the only spanwise structure is a balsa leading and trailing edge.

I don't think this is strong enough. I will be removing the other side also, and scratch building a new structure using spruce not balsa and a 3mm carbon spar also.

Ordered from UK warehouse on Friday, delivered on Monday. Excellent service.

Build quality of the kit appears excellent. however, am part way through the build, and a number of small but annoying issues have appeared.

The bolts supplied to fix the control horns to the ailerons aren't long enough, I had to recess the back plate of the horn into the aileron in order to get the bolts to do up.

Also, the thickness of the control horn means the clevises won't stay clipped shut with out a silicon retainer made from some fuel tube, as none supplied.

And finally the wings have a metal retained captive bolt inside, to bind the wings to the fuselage, instructions mention 2 x 5mm plastic bolts, but these don't appear to be supplied either.

None of these are insurmountable problems, but they detract from what would other wise be a well fitted out plane.
