If there are a few iconic aircraft that immediately come to mind when we think of the Golden Age of aviation, one of them must be the Waco.

Hobbyking is very pleased to offer scale enthusiasts one of the finest Waco aircraft ever produced, the fabulous Waco cabin SRE.

At 1300mm wingspan this is a beautiful 1/8th scale model of this classic aircraft and like the original it is loaded with features.

To start with this model is a builders work of art and truly a testament to the construction of ARF scale aircraft.  Pre-assembled from precision CNC machined plywood and balsa parts and finished in authentic period colors using highest quality covering.  The pre-assembled fuselage and wings go together easily and the high quality factory painted cowl, wheel pants and scale landing gear are all included as well as all the hardware required to complete assembly.

In the air our Waco just exudes the luxurious lines of the original and has no vices, in fact it flies just like a trainer.  With its high wing configuration and large wing area, it is suitable for beginners with take offs and landings being very easy especially for a tail dragger.

There is no doubt that the original Waco SRE was a classic in every sense of the word and this model certainly does the full sized version justice in both finish and performance.   If you are looking for a unique and quality model of a Golden Age airplane then you’ve just found it, the Hobbyking Waco SRE!

A really very nice model

Jul 29, 2017

I was quite impressed with this model.
The covering was very nice and was relitivly well built. A couple over the joints to the formers cracked while building it but overall was quite good.
The biggest problem with this model is how the wings attach. As you would expect to see it has a spar in the fuse and the wings locate onto that. The problem is that they are held on by rubber bands that attach to a hook on each wing. You cannot get your hands inside the model for ether top or bottom wing to attach the bands so what I did was bend a hook onto a piece of piano wire and put heatshrink on the other end for grip. Then hook the bands onto one wing and the "puller" side it through the fuse and the attach the bands to the other wing. This makes it quite easy to get the wings attached

Uncomplete Waco SRE

Jan 05, 2017

After a long waiting my Waco showed up. When opening the box I was amazed by the model. But it changed when I started building. First was the servos to mount in the wing. To screw in the servos was no problem but to get the servo-cords to the middle of the wing was a problem as there was no string to assist. For me no problem as I have been building models for 70 years. The mounting of the wings with rubber-bands is to go back 50 years and hard to do in this case where you hardly could see what you are doing. I read about the problem to mount the cowl so I dismantled the blind-nuts from the fuselage and mounted them in the cowl. This way I could put in the screws from the big opening in the fuselage. A little easier. The U-formed musikwire to connect the both elevator halves was to long. It would be in the hinges,so I shortened it. The same problem with the tail-wheel. The hole in the tail-wheel and the wheel-stopper is 1,5 mm but the wire is 2,0 so it will not fit without some drilling.
Can anyone tell me how to mount the wheels with the nice wheel-pant.

First model I have bought from HobbyKing that has a decent solid fiberglass cowl.
Superbly finished. Not hard to work our where everything goes without a manual.

Ordered the Waco during the free shipping deal and very impressed so far. Arrived perfect, double boxed and with just looking at the contents prior to the build, I am very impressed. What an absolutely beautiful looking model, deep red/black with gold pin striping, really stands out. Quality hardware and fittings Included and finally good sized landing gear wheels with beautifully made wheel pants. If this bird flies as good as she looks, I will be extremely happy. Great job HK. I will follow up with more feedback after the maiden or I may just keep the Waco to admire on display......
