The prototype Stearman PT-13 Kaydet two seat biplane first flew from Wichita, Kansas in October 1934. Fitted with Lycoming R-680 radial engines, the first trainers, designated PT-13s, were delivered to the US Air Corps in mid 1936 together with more aircraft in 1937 and 1938. In 1940 demand for the trainer increased rapidly and outstripped Lycoming’s capacity to supply engines. This led to the Continental engined version, the PT-17.

The importance of the Stearman PT-13/PT-17 to the US war effort cannot be overemphasized. Approximately 50% of all US military pilots, who fought in WW II received their initial flight training in this sturdy aircraft. A further 10,000 RAF and Fleet Air Arm pilots used the Stearman trainer for primary training, at British Flying Training Schools throughout the United States, between 1941 and 1944.

Now is your chance to add this iconic military trainer aircraft to your fleet. This Plug and Fly version of the PT-17 is constructed from ultra durable EPO foam, and beautifully painted in an accurate to era scheme. Both wings are reinforced with dual carbon spars ensuring a rigid structure and minimizing flex.

Features such as the beautifully detailed scale paint scheme, moulded plastic engine cylinder heads, exhaust pipes and undercarriage legs really bring this model to life. It's very hard to tell this model is foam when it's in the air!

Assembly is a breeze thanks to the detailed instruction manual and clearly labeled parts for the wing structure. Being plug and fly, the servos, motor & ESC are all pre-installed, meaning less time on the bench and more time in the air!

Features:
• Durable EPO foam construction
• Plug and Fly version, simply add your own radio system and batteries
• Beautiful scale paint scheme
• Easy assembly
• Dual carbon spars in each wing

Danke Franz !

Crashed 1st Flight!

Sep 20, 2017

Unfortunately I didn't read the reviews before I flew it; and it crashed and broke the fuselage in half along with a couple Cabane struts on the first flight; the CG was too far back (nothing in the instructions about CG) and it snapped on the approach to land when it got slow. However, I was able to fix it so it looked almost new and it got to fly again; I didn't see any spare parts listed anywhere so I had to improvise on the broken Cabane struts. It flew much better the 2nd time; I had added 5.5 oz of lead in the firewall to get the CG froward where it should be (not much room in there for lead). The instructions are VERY brief and if you've little modeling experience, this is probably not the airplane for you to start with; however, it only took me a day to assemble it for flight. This is pretty much a fun airplane, not extremely aerobatic, has a relatively slow roll rate, will do loops, eights etc. but don't expect it to be a Pitts. It fly's at 1/3 to 1/2 throttle OK Good value if your just looking for something to have a little fun with.

Flies very realistically but needs some alterations.

Jun 18, 2017

Flew the model for the first time this morning. I had to put some weight under the cowling and had some help from an experienced flier. We used the buddy lead between two Turnigy transmitters. It flew really well after trimming by my expert flier. Now I will try to make it more realistic by painting the exhaust ports and air intake in silver. Highly recommended.

Excellent product

Jun 16, 2017

Very beautiful scale model of the Stearman PT-17. Very accurate as well, not as mentioned in other reviews: the PT-17 had the 7 cylinder Continental radial engine which was beautifully copied in this model, NOT a 9 cylinder engine as mentioned in another review. Will however add the wing rigging and will paint the connecting rod covers in silver to make it more realistic. Will add a review after finishing the model and hopefully fly it.

PT17

May 15, 2017

Mine arrived safely and all went together well. I had to put a chunk of lead in the nose cone.
I used foam 2 foam glue for the tail plane as it came with no glue.
I used epoxy to glue in the wing roots.
This bird has now become a firm favourite and lands very well.It also spins like a top.
Well done on another great model Hobby King.
Regards, Nick.

PT 17 Stearman

May 14, 2017

My Stearman arrived two days ago and was in perfect condition on arrival.
Maidened it yesterday and am happy to say this plane is becoming a favourite.
I had to add a bit of lead to the inside of the engine cowling and I am running a 3700 four cell.
It flies beautifully and spins like a top, What is NOT to like about this well made darling.
This evening I took an air brush to it and added a little weathering to it to remove some of the squeaky cleanness away and to make it look a bit like a hard worked trainer.
Fantastic value for money.
Thanks Hobby King.

Nice model- Just make it better

Jan 22, 2017

Money for value, This is a Great model. For the size of this, There is nothing else on the market at this price. Do not use the supplied glue, Use 30 min. epoxy, and remove the paint where you need to glue, I use acetone, works great. Pre-fit and sand, carve and do whatever to make sure all parts fit proper BEFORE gluing. Yes, you may need better screws for the horns, and Yes, You may need touch up paint, But really, Make this into a great flying model, Use common sense, This is a model, It is not perfect, None of them are, You may need to drill, cut, sand, use different screws, Whatever, The electronics in this are ok, just ok, they work, But I put better esc's and servos in all my aircraft. Just because I don't know what brand the factory uses, But again, This plane IS a Great plane for the price. I would buy another one, Just because of the price, AND it does look really good in the air. This is a old model, But I do buy a lot of old models, Because everybody works the bugs out. But do the RC groups search, And you will see the info. Mine is very detailed as all my aircraft are. I loved building this to make it look good, Hope you will too. As far as instructions go, If you really need Instructions to build this,, then this plane is not for you. That is why i will not comment on other reviews. And spare parts are available, just do a search,
