A great looking and handy sized semi-scale model of the renowned Edge 540 aerobatic plane that falls neatly between profile all foam models and fully built-up balsa 3D models and is a fabulous way to dip a toe into the world of 3D flying, or just to go out and have a blast with!

The model features an EPP skin over a plywood and carbon fiber built-up structure making it super-light, strong and flexible where needed to shrug off the minor knocks of everyday flying, while retaining scale looks with its fully sectioned cowling, curved canopy, symmetrical air-foil and smooth lines.

The 540T has huge control surfaces, which combined with the ultra-light airframe allows for anything from lively sport flying to all-out 3D flying, with prop hanging, spins, tumbles, blenders and harriers all within the models capability.

A good quality hardware pack is included, with all of the required parts to complete the airframe ready for your choice of servos, receiver, ESC and motor.

The HobbyKing™ Edge 540T is a quick to build, one piece model with good access to the motor, battery and radio gear so that it can be ready to fly at a moment’s notice whenever the opportunity arises!

Features:
• Fully built-up EPP/plywood constructed fuselage

Good easy plane

Mar 19, 2017

This is my first foamy plane and I am very happy with it: easy to build and good hardware included. I fly aerobatics (no 3D 'cause I don't like it) easily with slightly reduced control movements and 20% expo; does all I can try in calm days. I use the recommended setup with a 10x6 propeller and 1300 mA batteries and I get more than 6 minutes flight time. It is also very sturdy in hard landings and inside the car. Overall I am satisfied, I don't give 5 stars just because I still believe that the price is a bit high for a plane made of foam, but for all the rest I highly suggest it for easy Sunday flying!

This plane is absolutely gorgeous!!! I can honestly say I have never flew a plane which is more stable and flying with ease. Build is nice, overall quality is very good, all parts fit together neatly. Also designers has strengthened the constructions with carbon and wooden bars so joints, rudder etc. are tough and do not bend easily like other foamies I have had. There is simply nothing more I can ask from a foamie for this money.

My setup is Turnigy SK3-2836-1040V with 10x5 APC style, ESC - HobbyKing YEP 30A, 4x Turnigy™ MG90S and a 3S 1300mAh Turnigy nano-tech. With this configuration the plane is 714 g. The motor has plenty of power and I fly 3D with quite a lot of hoovering, harriers and rolls for 8 mins. If one go extreme 3D (I am not there yet) one should be able to fly at least 5 mins with this configuration. I will probably upload a video, but in any case I would highly recommend this product for a second 3D plane ( I started with Hummer 3D)

i was intrigued by the construction of this plane and i was looking for a low wing plane, i had selected the 2826 motor and had 1300mh batteries, with that motor and the recommended prop size for the motor it was very under powered i ran a larger props 8x6 and 9x4 which helped but flight times were very short, the 2830 would probably be a better choice, in the end i went big with some mod's put a 3536 motor, 10x5 prop and 2200mh batteries(had to locate under the wing to get good cg), and it flys like a beast with long flight times.
only issue i had putting the plane together was the tail would not fit in the slot as the directions indicated, i had to put a slit in the very end of the tail to slide it in.

In the end this is a pretty sturdy plane, the design is spot on and flys very true, once trimmed and cg is correct, rapid roll rates, tight loops, it will maintain heading with hands off stick

Now the second part of my review.
Great!!! This plane has fantastic flying characteristics and is a perfect small 3D trainer.
I fly mine with a 1400 KV motor on 3s with a 10x5 or 11x5 prop. I use 3s 1250mAh up to 2200mAh. With the small accu you have a lively 3D modell that makes a lot of fun! But also with the 3s 2200 mAh lipo the plane can manage the 3D maneuvres terrific. Highly recommended!

The rating depends on the quality and assembling! Not flown the plane yet.
Flying weight is 700g with a 3s 1250 mAh 30C. If you use lighter servos you maybe can reach 680g. The promoted 630g are not possible with a kit like mine.
One side of the wing in my kit wasn't glued correct. The cover foam layer bends and the parafoil doesn't fit therefore. Very annoying.
The fuselage was twisted, so the wing and the elevator are not parallel. No servo extensions in the kit. The linkage is weak and I changed them with ball heads.

Really great 3D training plane. Flies little more like balsa planes when compared to flat fuse designs. Assembles easily, flies well, is quite compact and easily taken with you for quick flights.
