Description

As a perfect introduction to R/C Yacht Racing the HydroPro Affinity RG65 Class Racing Yacht is hard to beat!

The HydroPro Affinity stands out from its closest competitors by including 2 complete racing rigs with mylar sails at a fraction of the cost of lesser optioned boats.

Quick and easy to assemble, the Affinity will have you on the water for some close, competitive racing or relaxing cruising in no time, with a performance that will satisfy even the most discerning RC Yacht Skipper.

The Affinity comes complete with a heavy duty sail winch, metal geared rudder servo, receiver & battery harness/switch assembly and battery holder.

The hull and rudder and are molded from tough plastic, while the mast and booms are made using lightweight carbon fiber tubes for strength and durability. A streamlined cast zinc alloy ballast weight and stiff hydro-dynamically designed, extruded aluminum fin attaches to the hull using a threaded retainer.

Assembly couldn't be simpler and all that is required to sail the model is a 2 Channel Transmitter/Receiver set of your choice and 4 AA sized alkaline or NiMH batteries.

The Affinity uses a sophisticated hull design and built-in rig 'tuning' allowing it to be competitive in a wide range of wind conditions making it ideal for class racing, one design racing or general sailing. It makes a great choice for a group of experienced skippers and novices alike and will be fully supported with spare parts and accessories.

After eight months I'mstill enjoying this yacht and it holds it's own against well set up Joysway 65's. My first review highlighted a few leak issues but once rectified, noothers have materialised. I'm still using the original deck patch, just sealing the edgeswith white insulation tape. Although dry cells run a long time in the boat, I now use Instant NiMH cells. I sail in salt water, rinsing with tap water after each session, sofar all components show no sign of corrosion.

Until this boat I had zero experience with a sailboat. I've owned hundreds of prop boats over the years, but it wasn't until I met a lady and her husband at the local water hole that rent R/C sailboats did I ever get a chance to try one. I then decided to get my own, and I'm glad I did. I will say, the instructions are not great, especially when it comes to the rigging (something I knew NOTHING about). But with some research and help from the rental guy (who owns 2 world records for sailing!) even he's impressed with how well it handles. Even when they're packing in their high end boats due to too high winds...the Affinity is still handling the wind and loving it (and she's fast!). I did replace all the rigging lines with better quality stuff than the kite string it comes with (a 5 dollar roll of braided 80lb fishing line will let you re-rig this boat 100 times over). Hull quality is excellent, sails are great, (mine came rolled, not folded, so no creases) haven't had any issues with the included servos. overall I'm really impressed. Running it with a much modified turnigy 9x that I use for my quadcopters and an orangerx receiver, but there's no reason you couldn't run this on a very basic 2ch 2 stick radio. Overall, I love this boat!

Great quality hull and fittings, 2 full rigs, sails beautifully, I don't know how they can sell it for this price.
The instruction manual diagrams are of poor quality ( very dark images) but just go to Soch Sails web site and follow the rigging instructions for the DF 65 and it all goes together without problems. Superb. Just buy one and enjoy.

Not my first sailboat. Previous Seawinds, EC12, Soling. But this is the best one. Sails perfectly in slight to strong winds. Fun to build. Parts are all there. Instructions are good. Quality is excellent. Everything about this boat is well done. It's a blast to sail.

Received Boat on Thursday of last week and am happy with it. Most annoyed that today, Monday, Hobby King has reduced the price by 20%!!!!!

I am not happy at that.

Come on Hobbyking, be decent to your customers? There were a few of the minor parts missing when I received it, Luff Rings, and not enough rigging cord.

What about some credit on my Account???

The model arrived promptly and very well packaged. My only other experience at sailing was a few trips out with a mate's ready to use yacht, which I enjoyed enough to look around and buy this one. The manual has fairly dark images that needed very close attention to rigging for the inexperienced, but was all done ok over a few evenings. There's no space in the radio tray for the receiver so it all needed removing to secure it behind the tray before refitting.

My first outing was in a very gentle breeze and the yacht was very happy zipping about at a fair rate, I sailed for around an hour. At home I noticed 5mm of water swilling about in the hull.. the yacht hadn't leant over much to suspect the deck patch was leaking so I used a cree torch lowered in the radio bay to light up thd hull to find any holes. To my disappointment Some of thd deck eyes were factory fitted a turn too deeply and had broken the plastic, but the main culprit was a 5mm hull crack under the nose rubber. A quick sink test revealed that I had been lucky on the lake only taking on the water I did.

I've repaired the hull rather than send it back for a replacement. Overall though I'm very pleased with the yacht and look forward to many hours use.

Very good value for the money but there are a few problems with the kit.

The manual is poor, the photographs are so dark that it is difficult to see any detail. This is fine if you have built yachts before but not for beginners.

The instructions detail fitting luff rings but there are none in the kit despite the instructions and box art showing them fitted. They are available as spares if you are prepared to wait a few weeks for delivery. There are no spares in the UK store.

My sails are very badly creased and I will need to source different sails or make new ones myself.

The rudder servo chatters all the time in neutral and that will also need to be replaced before it drives me mad.

All in all this is not a bad kit and I would have been prepared to pay more for it with better quality servos and sails.

I have yet to sail it because of very poor weather.
