Self Assembly Pedal Operated Bungee Launch System/Ramp for FPV/Glider and EDF Models - Hand launching models can be a tricky business and most flyers have had it all go wrong for them at some point, this great launch system is easy to transport & field assemble and allows you to launch totally solo with the peace of mind of adequate airspeed every time for a succesful launch, everything you need is included!

One could make something similar with PVC tubing, but the provided tubes do look much more sturdy. The accessories aren't as cheap as I was afraid of: screws, and the plywood has a nice finish. So yes this bungee needs a bit of tinkering (see IJSSS excellent advices), but the final result looks much better than a DIY job.

With a few modifications, this is great value and works well
I went over the wooden pedal with CA and clear lacquer for protection against the elements
Made up a safety pin device to prevent accidental deployment, threw away the stupid nails and replaced them with quality steel pegs, bought two lots of the HK red bungee cord, you can double up one of these for a successful cord, brazed up the ends of the steel rings so they don't open up under pressure and you now have a quality setup
I also left the middle plastic connectors only slightly loose so a small twist and the apparatus splits in 2 for easier cartage
Works really well and quite a pleasure to use, saves the prop of my radjet taking off skin during hand launching. Would recommend once the safety modifications are made

Unit was unable to be assembled. Apparently they changed to a thicker plywood but neglected to enlarge the square holes the pivot ears mount into. Either that or the kerf allowance is far off. Completely useless without spending an hour filing. I'll build from scratch in that case.

Please be very careful with this item! It does misfire often unless you modify it or create a safety device for the release. I had to go to the Emergency Room last night and have the metal ring that is the release ring to the foot pedal surgically removed from my right index finger! I was loading the jet onto the stand with the release ring on the post for the foot pedal, and being very careful because it does literally misfire twice as much as it releases an airplane, and it let loose. That metal ring, literally pierced through my finger and I had to run towards the large nail that holds the other end of bungee because it was trying to pull the ring out of my finger! The gap where to formed ring comes together is only as wide as a piece of paper, but some how that was enough to grab a piece of my skin, and it pulled itself right through one side of my finger and out the other side! I sure wish I could post the pictures on this review! it is a very graphic picture but it sure would make HK rethink the design! This device needs to be modified like the other review to make some what safe for use! I'm 40 years old and have been in modeling for many decades. This thing is dangerous!

Here's the short review: Best catapult you can buy for 22 EUR. More details: Works reasonably well, I'd suggest a few modifications. Use LOTS of superglue on all frame joints. tie the release plate to the bottom of the fiber glass pipe, not the top. Use a dremel or metal saw to roughen up the pin in the release mechanism, it is really slick. Use a small key ring to hook in your plane. Make sure that the hook is glued VERY securely, due to the catapult's design, the full draw force of the sling rips into the plane. For a Radjet 800, I used about 7m of draw length -> Get a longer rubber if you don't have impressively good reflexes.

Das ist beim Bau nicht so tragisch, aber bei der Inbetriebnahme schon.
Man weiss erst nicht, wie man das Seil und das Gummi verbinden muss, auch nicht welche Lnge man braucht, wenn man ein strkeres Gummi nimmt.
Hat man dies einmal raus geht es eigentlich ganz gut.
Die Halterung am Flugzeug ist etwas schwerer.
Bei meinen ersten Versuchen, zog das Gummi den Flieger wieder zu Boden.

I also modified the pedal by drilling a 7/64th hole to install a safety pin to prevent accidental releases.other than that, it does well.

unless you live out in the woods do yourself a favor and go to home depot and 8 elbows and one ten foot lengh of 3/4 " pvc pipe and build it yourself. It's a cheap POS

Today I launched my Taborca 3.30 m. flying wing sailplane with this system; works really good, in stead of the included rubber hose I used 10 meter of 5 mm bungee cord, this will launch a glider this size no problem. Just remember to not start the motor before the bungee drops from the hook as the prop will cut it... Taborca is hard to handlaunch as the CG is far back on the fuse (swept wing), this ramp solves a problem.
Construction might be tougher, and it would be real handy if this ramp could be folded over or disassambled!
