The Ryan STA is an icon of the golden age of aviation, quickly replacing the attractive but under-powered Ryan ST (Sports Trainer), the STA (Sport Trainer Aerobatic) won the 1937 International Aerobatic Championship, leading to immediate interest from the US military, if you are lucky, you can still see one of these fantastic looking aircraft doing the air show circuits.

On the other hand, you could own and fly your own! We loved the Ryan STA Plug n Fly so much when testing that it became a firm favorite with all the team. Made from tough EPO, we have really put this model through it's paces and it is still going strong! Scale detail is impressive for a foam model, the huge wheel pants, rigging wire, panel lines and wing struts give an impression of a much larger model, both in the air and on the ground.

There is plenty of power from the pre-fitted motor for classic aerobatics like stall turns & barrel rolls, yet the generous STA wing area makes for a superbly balanced model that is just as happy flying at scale speed. Likewise, the pre-fitted servo/control surface combination is perfect, the result is one of the smoothest EPO models you are ever likely to fly.

This is a disappointing plane. It look pretty, but is very heavy and underpowered. The plane is tail heavy, and to get the centre of gravity 40 mm from the leading edge (as specified), you have to add weight to the nose, even with the the 3S 1300 mah battery pushed far forward. Frankly, it flies like a brick - my advice is to choose something else which actually flies.

Fliegt Super!

It will take off of short grass fields, and lands fine on them as well, just be sure to flare a bit just before touch down. Once trimmed out, she flew well, rolls, and highly banked turns were no issue. I could not make her loop though. She goes to the top of the loop, and does a funky roll and nearly stalls. I was high enough to catch it each time, so no damage done. I plan to move the linkage on the elevator to give me more throw on the next flight. She has plenty of power, so loops should be do-able. I did have a wire pop off, and didn't realize it until back home. Otherwise, a nice flying plane, and looks good in the air.

I've had this plane about 5 months now. Not for beginners but good for taking the next step. I lost track of the number of crashes and mishaps but with all the glue and epoxy its still flying!(most of the wires are long gone) It will loop, roll, and fly inverted quite well, but set your rates low and expo high at first. The ailerons are very sensitive. I land it in grass so calling it a "landing" is a stretch. It doesnt like the wind very well either. It is a fun little airplane to fly.

I really liked the look of this plane. Very detailed EPO. The rigging wire should be double checked right out the box I found my mounts to not be glued in very well and after having tension on them for only a day had already came loose. Like another review stated definitely not a beginner plane. I know because I'm a beginner. It made it though my first major crash with only a broke wing added a spar and glued it back together but my second dirt nap sealed its fate. Tip stalled and broke wing in two places, broke firewall and snapped fuselage in half. Only if HobbyKing stocked spare parts. I would love to give this plane a second try. I still recommend buying this plane it is priced right and someone who has a little more experience could definitely have a good fun afternoon of flying with this plane. One last note it has the option for flaps so go ahead and grab you another two servos and install them.

Nice flying plane once you get it set up right. Fast enough and quite aerobatic. Cg is way off as usual. Very tail heavy. Gluing on the tail ass. helps, as does many other mods. Refer thread on RCG for details. Best cg IMO is right on the upper wing struts. Flies nice there, and not all pitchy. I use a 1300 3s nano pushed up hard against the firewall. Changed prop to 9x6 APC for more thrust. Added flaps as well. Good value for money if you are prepared to do a few mods.

Received the model from the new Dutch warehouse. Very fast delivery (within 2 days). It took a bit more time to assemble as instuctions are not very detailed, so a few re-assemblies were required. Final finish is very detailed and nice to look at. Make sure you check the locking screws of the servo's, one was missing in my case. Make sure you do a proper CG check as I had to add 100 grams of weight in the nose. All in all very happy with the plane. Good flying!
