S500 FR4 Glass Fiber Quad Copter 480mm PNF Combo.

The S500 Combo Kit is based on our very popular, stable and lightweight S500 Frame. This rig was designed for optimal flight and gets you out of the workshop and into the air quicker. The perfect setup for park flying, FPV and filming projects in a simple to put together package.

The S500 frame itself comes with 2 blue and 2 white arms for better orientation in the air. The upswept arms give the frame a slight dihedral which helps make it very stable, especially when descending from altitude.  Not only does the design of the upswept arms make for a stable flying platform, but they also include a carbon fibre rod through the center making this a very solid frame.

The included landing gear offers enough clearance for a camera gimbal to be attached to the built in rod style camera mounts.  This system has a lockable slide mount that can be moved to adjust the center of gravity when the camera and camera gimbal are mounted.

The build could not be any easier, with pre-threaded sleeves in the arms, the frame just screws together, clean and simple. Bolt on the clockwise and counter clockwise 2212 MultiStar motors with 9443 self-tightening propellers.  The included distribution loom is a simple plug and play experience with a XT60 male connection to the 4 pairs of 3.5mm plugs for motor connection. Included in the loom is a JST male plug that can be used for connecting power to video transmitters, camera gimbals or LED lighting systems.

The Thunder QQ Super flight controller ties this Combo all together in a simple plug and play manner.  Super stable flight performance is achieved via the built in 3 axis gyroscope and 3 axis acceleration sensor self-stabilising function.

All these components make this Combo a simple, stable and hassle free plug and play experience to get you in the air flying.

Make sure that you have identified the turning directions of motors before fixing because, we cannot connect any propeller to any motor. Screwing directions are fixed.

You can't beat this for the money.
I've been on RC aircraft for many years, but this is my first quad. Great value, went together in an hour or so and setup was maybe another 20 minutes. Then in the air.
Only problem I had was the legs don't take any side stress. I guess the first time I calibrated the controller, it didn't take. I started to take off and it went sideways a little and 2 legs broke. Re-calibrated and all was fine. Anyone got a link to a new set of legs?

The Thunder QQ Super Flight Controller is garbage and I will be replacing mine.

The auto leveling feature has one big major flaw that caused my S500 FR4 Glass Fiber Quad Copterto crash twice, which ruined two arms and four legs.

The auto level will always fight the end user when trying to turn. For example, when fly my quad forward the auto level will try to level it out after 4 seconds. As soon as that happens you can't go forward any more, but as soon as you try to bring it back the auto level gets confused and the quad loses control.

I had to have some help me get my right stick (controller) to work. He had to program the speed controls all four and calibrate sensor to get direction control to work. I had the throttle working but each motor wouldn't work equally. You really need to read the instruction for flight control step by step. They should have more video's to help people when buying a product.

great product, as the vid said, as a first hobby grade quad. shame my radio changed a few channels around during my test flight which lead me to crash :( over all a great product and I would recommend to anyone :)

an easy build. the flight board was defective. fortunately i had a spare thunder qq which worked. tried using the frysky but it didn't work. it worked with the turnigy 9x receiver. had some nice stable flights. the flight board started to not function. while it was working it flew well. i may have gotten some lemon flight controllers. impressive stable performance when it was working.

Awesome kit for the price! Overall it's a really nice quad. As others have noted the legs are garbage. I broke all four when I was doing the setup. Barely even landed hard. The instructions were pretty poor for hooking up the electronics so I added a comment in the discussion section of this page to help others get setup correctly. My main issue was putting the motors in the right spot. I had them flipped. I highly recommend buying extra props, legs (other then those included), and control arms NOW! I should've. I broke two props and the legs during setup and another prop and control arm on a hard wipe out. Now I have to wait another week before I can get flying again. I am using the HK6S Tx/Rx and it works well although it took me awhile to figure out trim buttons. Overall I had a ton of fun putting it together and look forward to flying it more when the new parts come in.

Nice quad, but props are not good, flyable, but thats all. I don'y use the QQ controller. I use a Pixhawk and a FrSky L9R and Taranis, all bought at Hobbyking.

Overall a very good quadcopter. I have mine paired with the APM OSD Kit with 915Mhz radios, and a 5200mAh Multistar / Turnigy battery. I have several flights in and can testify that this quad is indeed super stable right out of the box. My only suggestion would be to get a set of 10 x 3.8 DJI style / Multistar (straight, not S-type) carbon fiber props if you want good performance.

If you want to add a brushless gimbal, be sure to stick with a small platform like the Turnigy Action Camera, Mobius, etc.. This quad copter will not lift a medium sized gimbal and camera like the Quanum Mid-Sized gimbal and mid-sized action cameras. Those are better suited for the S550 Hexacopter.

Very easy to assemble, all parts marked clearly, decent instructions, good support through HobbyKing's Daily videos for the S500 quadcopter combo. Very satisfied with my purchase. Thank you HobbyKing!!!
