The Hobbyking Skymaster is a traditionally built, pre-covered Balsa trainer with a difference, being plug and fly, almost all the hard work has already been done!

The Skymaster is a fast build, even for a novice, the brushless outrunner motor, ESC and most servo's have been pre-installed, simply follow the included instructions and you will be in the air in no time! Being a traditional sheet build, the Skymaster is tough and easy to repair should you have an oops moment, we know, we fly one almost every weekend! The undercarriage is proper piano wire and is so tough it can handle anything up to 4" lightweight wheels for even the most nasty airfields!

The Skymaster has plenty of power and handles superbly, so well that once a new pilot has managed to get to grips with the basics, a flick of the rates switch and you have a brilliant little sport model for mastering basic aerobatic maneuvers. The Skymaster is a fantastic flying model with that certain "something" that only balsa models can offer, fun & tough with great performance, this is the ideal all rounder for both the club airstrip or for parkfly!

Really good trainer. Easy and very fun to fly. This is also hard to damage (I crashed it on trees several times and still goes on).

Be sure to check all motor screws before fly.

Using a battery with 1300mhA 3s-15C can generated aprox. 19.5 Amps. This is very close to the capacity of the ESC (20A). I ordered one of the recommended batteries 1300mhA-3s-25C this could generated aprox. 32.5 Amps. Can this blow the ESC? Or is the max amps of the motor that should be below the max amps of the ESC (I read the rule of the 10pcnt)?
Thanks

The motor set screws got loose and the motor flew off even before fly. Luck? I recommend locking fluid on these screws since the same issue has been reported by others. Hope, a factory fix for new models.

Surprisingly good build quality, fuselage made out of 3mm ply. Glued both the main wing and tail, setup all servos had to make some modifications to the rods exiting the rear of the fuselage, made adjustment to elevator to suit the tail wheel. Had to move the rudder servo as the length of the control rod to rudder was too short. Set up with OrangeRx R415 Spektrum DSM2 Compatible 4Ch Micro Receiver and Turnigy 1500mAh 3S and as the manual didnt state the CG, set up at 1/3 of the wing width to which was 53mm, flight times around 10 minutes with the battery as far up the front as possible and this will be good for the beginner; I would purchase a spare prop and O rings as I can see this being the weak point for the beginner. 10 out of 10 for this one

Absolutely wonderful trainer! Came in the mail with other stuff, packed very carefully, with no damage. Construction was simple, though instructions are poor at best. Switched wheels per the HK suggestion. Proper CG placement required battery pack to be fully forward. I would suggest either 3S1P 2200mAh or 3S2P 1300s. Both Setups ran well, and put the CG in the sweet spot. No wing drop on stalls, takeoff in ~25ft on dirt (baseball diamond). Never had to go to low rates. May switch out the floppy prop adapter for better thrust response, but it makes sense for a trainer. Best value on the market for a balsa trainer.

excellent avion. Facile a voler, beaucoup de puissance pour dcoller. Facile a assembler. S'assemble environ en 2hrs mme pour un dbutant. Le prix est vraiment interessant pour apprendre a voler et faire quelques acrobaties. Hobbyking est incontestablement un adversaire de taile dans le domaine des avion tlguid!!

The Skymaster is my first balsa plane, after first owning foamies like the Bixler and Tek Sumo.

Out of the box I was very impressed with the quality. The covering looks great. Everything went together fairly easily, the only slight problem was that the main landing gear rods were slightly too long to fit flush with the fuselage. Had to get the Dremel cut-off wheel out and trim a few millimetres off for it to sit right.

One thing that is not good enough is that the manual doesn't mention a centre of gravity. Come on hobbyking that's a pretty important thing to include, especially for a trainer! I ended up entering all the measurements in an online CG calculator and decided on starting with a CG of 42 mm. It took a 1.8 Ah battery all the way forwards to balance at that point, so significantly more battery than the suggested 1.3. I'll try a 1.6 next to see how that affects flight.

I was a bit nervous with my first flight of a plane with wheels, but the skymaster made it easy. It flies great, feels a bit more "solid" in the air than the foam planes I've flown previously. Seems to be very forgiving on landings, a couple of mine have tested the landing gear, but there's a decent amount of spring in them to soak up the force. The 75 mm foam wheels worked great on the longer grass but I'm flying from.
