The Hobbyking Skymaster is a traditionally built, pre-covered Balsa trainer with a difference, being plug and fly, almost all the hard work has already been done!

The Skymaster is a fast build, even for a novice, the brushless outrunner motor, ESC and most servo's (all except wing servo) have been pre-installed, simply follow the included instructions and you will be in the air in no time!

Being of traditional balsa construction, the Skymaster is tough and easy to repair - should you have an "Oops!" moment or two. The undercarriage is proper piano wire and is so tough it can handle anything up to 4" lightweight wheels for even the most nasty of airfields!

The Skymaster has plenty of power and handles superbly, so well that once a new pilot has managed to get to grips with the basics, a simple increase in the control surface throws and you have a brilliant little sport model for mastering basic aerobatic maneuvers such as loops, spins, stall turns, inverted flight and much more!

The Skymaster is a fantastic flying model with that certain "something" that only balsa models can offer, fun & tough with great performance, this is the ideal all rounder for both the club airstrip or for parkflying!

Note: This is the updated version (Skymaster V2) featuring larger wheels/tires for easy ROG take offs on long grass and a removable magnetic battery hatch in the nose to facilitate battery swaps without removing the wing.

Quality is OK

Feb 05, 2017

One of the rods that hold the wing in fell thought so I had to go to a local hobby shop and buy a new dowel and epoxy it in. Also the horizontal stabilizer as very crooked. I will post a picture in the file upload. The instructions were OK but not detailed enough for a beginner. I have built a few RC airplanes in the past so I can follow the instructions just fine. I have not flown it yet but I will when the weather permits.

Build was simplicity though the instructions left a lot to be desired! So don't buy unless you have some arf building experience but pleased with the quality

I am at the building stage and will update once completed. Price is very reasonable but quality isn't up to my usual hobby king expected standard. there are random debris lodged (almost like rough basla shavings/chips) under some of the covering between the structural rib and cover. You can visually see it immediately and its rough to the touch. Also the ailerons are hastily glued and you can see some excess between aileron and wing. Also the Rods that come out of the wing that control ailerons (Both sides) can only force the ailerons to go down. Can't go up. It is as if they created that channel for the rods to move only from center to one direction only. As in I had to carve out extra room for the rods to move in the opposite direction so the ailerons could move in both up and down direction. Also the motor... I haven't diagnosed it yet or powered it but it makes a very bizarre ringing/bell sound when i manually rotate it. Almost as if something is loose inside. Also the stabilizer is VERY weak and same goes for rudder. I'm wondering if i should fortify it before gluing them on. It is not perfect or without faults but is isn't anything you can fix so it only increases build time a little and a slight annoyance.

Arrived with a broken fuselage, I returned the model and received a full refund apart from the return shipping fees which I thought was a bit unfair considering the damage was not my fault. Nearly 20 out of pocket as I live outside of the U.K.

Nice plane! Just got mine a couple days ago and the coat is perfect. Everything goes together real well and I haven't noticed anything amiss as far as how it was built. The directions are HORRIBLE!! In particular, be careful assembling the tail feathers as there is a sequence to it that is not addressed in the manual. Control horns, tail wheel and the control surfaces all need to be sorted before you apply glue. Read through the directions and then throw them away. That said, I love it. Ive moved to bigger and bigger planes over the years and am happy to be excited about a small one again!

Awesome little plane all around! I like it so much I ordered a second just to keep around. I decided to drop in a different power system and servos (HK SCM9-5v servos and NTM 2826 1000kv motor) Balances perfect with a 2200mah 3s and draws ~7 amps at cruise throttle with an 8x6 APC prop. I also added an orange 3 axis stabiliser which lets me fly in 5-7 kts of wind. Definitely not a windy day flyer without a stabiliser though. Makes an awesome FPV plane and has plenty of lift for more weight. Watch the wing joint, aileron throws and landing gear mounts. Wing joint needed some minor work to line up properly and one aileron wouldnt travel as far up as the other, both were easy to fix though. Landing gear mount blocks are not very well set and need to be epoxied to hold up more than a weekend or two, once again an easy fix. control surfaces only need about 8mm of total throw for a pretty responsive model.
4 crowns on quality because of the weak landing gear job.

great little kit for every day flying, needs some extra work on the ailerons as the wood blocks a bit the movement but after that you have a great value for money!

Wow, what a great plane! I bought this as my first plane, and I am amazed by the quality! You guys did a really good job of putting this plane together at a reasonable price. Everything works as advertised, and the plane flies really well. The big wheels enable me to take off almost anywhere! This is a great feature, since not everyone has access to a nicely mowed flying field. I was considering cutting into the wing and adding another servo to enable flaperons, but the big wheels provide enough drag to slow the plane down for a safe landing. The only reason I might not recommend this plane to a beginner is because it is a balsa plane. I nosed it in after trying some stunts, and it took at least 15 hours of my time to fix (fuselage needed gluing, wings needed some major work), as well as having to buy new covering film and an iron. A foamy would have taken very little time at all to fix. Considering the repair cost and time, I would recommend this plane to a more experienced flyer looking for a slower more docile plane to fly. Now that I have purchased and flown some more challenging planes, I will be using this plane to teach my friends how to fly. I highly recommend this plane. Even if you are a beginner, if you have the know-how and resources to fix a nosed in plane, this is a great plane to learn on.
