The Spad XIII was the final and ultimate version of the pretty French Fighter and featured a host of much needed aerodynamic and armament improvements over earlier versions which were outclassed by German fighters within 12 months of being supplied to French squadrons, the improvements were reccomended and pushed forward by the leading French Ace Georges Guynemer, the result being one of the classic fighters of WW1.

This EPO Spad is simply stunning both in terms of looks and scale detail, radiators, exhaust pipes, machine guns and so on are all faithfully reproduced and all the struts & cabanes feature loops for those wanting to add authentic rigging wire. Being Plug and fly, there is little to do in terms of building with the powerful motor, ESC & servo's pre-fitted and the high quality waterslide Decals have also been expertly pre-applied.

Flight performance from the superb bi-plane is 1st class, flight controls are responsive at all speeds and the model has a wide flight envelope, it is capable of realistic slow flight and scale aerobatics, it will also tolerate a little wind making it a very practical model to own. Through it's extensive flight testing, we also found the model to be very robust, when you put it all together, this superbly finished Spad has quality, looks, reliability & performance, it is a must for the collection of any scale or warbird enthusiast!

When I opened the box was disappointed with quality , tailplane and fin was bent , looked like mould problem , also wing was warped, managed to straighten out a bit better and thought perhaps the washout on the wing was part of the small design , on the maiden flight tonight it was all over the place and came to earth, I am a club Trainer so not exactly new to flying , but this was a nightmare , nothing like the video , going to ring up an see if they will refund from UK warehouse, shame cause it looks nice as a static, if I'd bought from local model shop would not have even tried it with all the bends in it , sorry that cost to return is rubbish, learnt lesson no more aircraft from Hobby King. had to rate 1 cus 0 is not an option

This is a beautiful little plane. The landing gear was very soon the first to break. I beefed it up with flat carbon strips. Then the damage just transferred up to where the gear attached to the body. The motor shaft is very thin and threaded making it weak. If you crash it on the nose there is a high likelihood that the shaft will bend or break. It's a beauty on the wall but I'd reconsider buying a second one because of it's inherent weak points. I like to fly them even more than admire them on the wall. I also added carbon strips to all the struts and cabanes because they're also just thin plastic and they broke too when landing on a wing.

Great little plane for the money. Assembly was straightforward with no major modifications required beyond adding about 55 g of weight under the cowl. Best to keep the control throws at a moderate rate for the initial maiden as this little plane is very sensitive to control surface input. I used a three cell 800 Mah battery and flight times were on average approximately 6 to 7 minutes. This is not a plane for beginners as it requires quite a bit of airspeed to stay afloat and certainly would not qualify as a slow flyer. Being a smaller plane one needs to ensure the ability to keep perspective and flying at dusk could hinder the ability to do so which you did for me and hence I crash this plane however it is one tough bird and I anticipate being able to fully repair the damage to both wings and get her back up in the air in short order. I would recommend this plane without hesitation to intermediate to experienced RC pilots.

I've had this Spad for a while now, and it flys beautifully. No need to add weight at all. The CoG is about 1/3 of the wing back from the leading edge. I just added the turnigy 800mAh 30C battery as suggested, which is a very very tight fit in the battery box, and it flies perfectly. Slow and fast.

I also fly off grass, so I got a set of larger wheels which allow it to land easily without nosing over.

It is not suitable for beginners, as the plane is quite pitch sensitive (very short fuselage) and it is also fairly complex to assemble with a bunch of fiddly little screws that the supplied screwdriver doesn't fit. File the end of the screwdriver flat, and it will fit the screws much better.

If you're an experienced pilot, this is a great plane, and looks beautiful in the air. It will fly slowly enough to look scale, and goes fine with the stock motor and prop combo, and can do aerobatics well, although the roll rate is a little slower than a low wing plane.

This model really looks really good, however it does have some issues. The glued in nut to fix the main wing did not have thread in it! No wonder I did't get the screw in, you can only see this when the screw comes out. A bigger problem was the engine coming loose after the first test run. It's only a missing screw but it's quite a shame you have to cut off the cowl from a plane that didn't even flew yet. Still 4 stars since it's a lovely and very complete plane, it even comes with glue and screwdriver.

Con't ... I used 3 Australian 50 cent coins (super glued) together and painted them black so it looks like part of the plane (matching the exhaust and guns also in black). It flies perfect once the 3 fifty cent coins were placed under the front cowl! So remember it will need nose weight to fly correctly otherwise it will stall over and crash! This model is so easy to fly and aerobatics are so much fun! Multiple aileron and rudder rolls are easy and vertical loops simple! Beautiful scale features of the real French WW1 bird! Best model I've ever owned once the nose weight issue is seen to! Highly recommended!

Great scale looking plane . Very good to see in the sky. The COG can only be adjusted by selection of battery or application of trim weight as there is only one fixed position for the battery. With nanotech 850 mah it is a little to much to the front but nevertheless flies well. Needs less expo than other planes. I am using 25pcnt on elevator and ailerons. And the servo travel is set to 135pcnt on my tx. Loops, stall turns can easily be flown with stock setup. The battery/esc compartment is quite crammed so changing battery is a little difficult. The plane can be flown also with a little wind but beware it is very sensitive to side wind in slow turns so it might surprise you when you move from into the wind to against the wind.

I give this plane 5 crown all round! It is very scale and well made! However I had hiccups with the first maiden! I made mistake of reading on this forum that if you put recommended battery in you need no nose weight! How wrong I was believing that! With my 800mah zippy lipo I still needed 62 grams of weight at the nose! My first maiden without the weight resulted in a crash but lucky it was repairable! So guys don''t believe anyone when they say correct CG is obtained with standard 800 3s battery pack!

Ok...start with this. It's an absolutely beautiful model. Just finished putting this together and I KNOW I will NEVER fly it. This did not come with a manual at all...or even a picture. I was referring to the pictures on this site to see where the struts went. My esc says 2x10 on it and has a yellow connection (XT-60). The battery compartment is too small for any 3s battery I've got Somebody else wrote up here that they think it's a 2s plane, and without modification. My esc errors when I plug a 3s into it...I'm guessing it must be 2s...but again...its' unlikely I'll ever find out. This is likely to be something I'll trade to a buddy of mine I'm rating this 4 stars 100pcnt on the quality of the materials and how pretty it is. I don't think it's ever going to be a flyer...at least not in my squadron. Would I recommend to somebody...probably not. Would I buy again...No. Am I "ok" with it...yeah...I am. It just looks that good.
