In effect, an "engined up" J3 Cub, the Super Cub was so popular that Piper were still building this aircraft right up until 1981, after which they sold the manufacturing rights, by which time they had sold 2,650 examples. The engine was uprated to 150hp, giving the Super Cub a top speed of 130mph, this extra power also made the Super Cub ideal for glider towing.

The Hobbyking Super Cub Cub with it's unique colour scheme is more than just a looker, it is a high quality, scale model that boasts, working bungee under-carriage, a magnetic Pilots door for easy battery access, flaps and a 2pc easy removable wing for transport.

This model is no IC conversion, it is a large, purpose built, electric powered, high quality model that will give hours of flying pleasure and with the reccomended set up, excellent flight times, are guaranteed, even if your model becomes the flying club glider tug!

I love this pretty big Piper! one of the best purchase from Hobbyking!
I fly mine whit a turnigy 35-42 and a 2200/2800mha 11.1V batteries and it has a lot of power (i fly mostly of all my flyghts with this plane at half-throttle).
This plane is very light (mine weights only 1970 grams) so i use 6 little 9grams servos.
I also installed some LEDs for night Flying and I even built a pair of floats.
Flying this Piper is a breeze: the plane is so slow and it has very forgiving flying charateristics and i think it can be the perfect plane also for a beginner; but even more experienced pilots can also have a lots of fun doing touch'n go, super-low pass, one wheel landings...
With LEDs and floats this plane can be a massive ammount of fun.
The only problem that i have was the Landing gear but, once you will reinforce it, you will have an Amazing bungee under carriage.
I'm very happy with this product, WELL DONE HOBBYKING!

Hi, NEED INSTRUCTIONS PLEASE!!
I boght this plane, and just received, intended to learning to fly, i also bought Turnigy 3548 and 13*6 prop, what do you think? I have many 3s 2200 Batt from my 450 Trex, would be ok? what about learning with this Piper, I know a longer tail moment would be better ? anybody has instructions file that comes with kit or some pics, the kit is very well built, some minor details on covering trim, but really good and lightweight. any input data would be very appreciatted. Alex

I received mine in the meantime. / It seems OK all together. / Even a bit 'larger' than I expected. / Mine has indeed all the windows & even the engine vac forms... By the way, they are mixing up quite a bit, the 150 hp engined 'Super' Cub has a different larger cowling w/ 2 lateral air intakes. / Side (sad) note: my cowling was 'very' cracked at 2 places, quite fragile plastic indeed. / So, I just opened a RMA case w/ HK. / We'll see how they handle it... / Happy flying to all / Chris

I've been flying my cub for about a year now and I am happy with it, after a few modifications. It flies fine but don't fly it on windy days. It is very light and the wind will give you a hard time - the plane will always try and track into the wind (big fat fuse) and crosswind landings are tough (but can be fun...). Land with a bit of power on and don't let the speed drop off too much. Other than that, its docile and quite forgiving as long as you don't let speed drop off too much in your turns. Rudder is very effective, lots of authority. Flaps are very effective, but you will need to mix in a few pcnt of down elevator to smooth the transition and prevent porpoising.

The stock LG is useless - throw it away and replace. Strengthen the inside of the fuse where the LG mounts. The cowl is very brittle - use thin fibreglass cloth and thinned epoxy on the inside and it will last a lot longer.

Nice big cub. Maiden it today. One of my few plane without a trim click ! Very strait material. Not be able to stall it facing the wind. roll and loop with authority. Mid flaps just a little up but full flaps need to push alot. some mixing needed. Can be flown very low...
After some landings, i landed in rough grass and she nosed over. Left landing gear twisted (not hard steel !) and firewall to glue and straitenth. I'll try an aluminium LG while waiting a eflite 25 landing gear. Overall a nice plane, stable and addictive ! I added a servo for towing my clubmates. When EU restock ?

Great value, well made and well finished.
Undercarriage is weak and needs strengthening. I fitted eFlite Super Cub .25 undercarriage which fits easily and is far superior.
It is a delight to fly although a little tail heavy without nose weight.
Cowl is very brittle and epoxy glass on the inside is a must.
Notwithstanding the undercarriage, it is really good value
