Average Economy ESC

Jan 02, 2019

I received my ESC a few days ago and it comes packaged in a nice red card board box with the instructions. Everything is already soldered and ready for installation. I put this ESC in my Spec-R S2 4wd sedan to run with a 17.5 motor in the blinky class.
I did the setup as per the instructions to calibrate to my radio and it all went well. I was surprised to find that my ESC came setup with throttle/brake/reverse which is unfortunate. I need to eliminate the reverse function for racing, but there is nothing in the instructions on how I might do this. It seems I must purchase a control box programmer at extra cost now. I think that Hobbyking should either include the box or clearly indicate that one is mandatory to fix the configuration.
I now must make another purchase and wait another 8 weeks for the program box before I can race. By the time I receive everything, the season's racing will be over. Very disappointed with this.

Best price to performance!!!

The esc works grate, werry smooth and uses the same programing card as the trackstar gen.ii esc series. Using in combination with a 13,5t trackstar motor on a tamiya tt-01r type-e. with the stock gearing. Is it coming in the european warehouse any time soon? Would like to buy some of them again.

It works

May 21, 2018

Seems like it works on Rattler. I have emptied 4 batteries so far and the ESC seems to work just fine even though the car is 1/8 scale.
However it can overheat if placed in the Rattler's "dustproof" box. On warm weather (+23°C) it shut'd down on me at least twice while driving aggressively-ish. I've installed a fan (not included) so that shouldn't be a problem anymore.
Brake strength is really strong as default so it might be a good idea to lower it with programming box.
For the price it's 5/5.

Excellent bargain!

This is a great small blinky ESC, I have three. For example using one in a brushless Tamiya M-05 racer, while the 13t/3000kv class-spec engine ran very hot (type fault apparently), the ESC itself remained cool even in the 10-minute main and provided plenty of performance.
It also has excellent programming options via the separately bought program box, including options that are not present in many $100+ ESCs (including my Hobbywing XR8-SCT and Speed Passion Reventon Pro 1.1). Although a minor annoying point in that regard is that the ESC setup has timing and turbo options even though you can't actually use those in this ESC, so they clutter the settings menu needlessly.
Overall, I don't think you can do better for the price for when you need a small, light, cheap yet reliable ESC without timing! The value of money is simply amazing here. But do remember to pick up the programming box with it (Trackstar multi function smart program box).

I have one of these for 17.5 2wd buggy. Very happy linear and no issues using the Trackstar Multi-function Program Box with it. I am buying another to race 13.5 Stock 4x4 Buggy.

Can't beat this ESC for the price. Get the HK multifunction program box to access all the settings, and there are a bunch of them like punch, and turbo, just look at the list of settings, and the program box is only $11 bucks or so and doubles as a USB link. Here: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__33985__TrackStar_Multi_Function_Smart_Program_Box.html

It also supports sensored and sensorless motors. Calibration was straight-forward, and so was accessing all the settings with the program box. Just read the directions and you can't go wrong. It operates in blinky mode.

I bought 2 of them so far, and they are rock solid. Stays pretty cool without a fan, but I don't have them geared very high. I will definitely be getting more of these little gems. Easy 5 stars.

Good price and quality, very compact. Easy to program by TrackStar Multi-Function Smart Program Box. I'm using it in crawler. For strong servos I recommend to use an external BEC.
