Like flying sailplanes but do not want to mess with the hassle of a winch or high start? Look no further than the HobbyKing Trendy electric sailplane. Power up, climb to altitude, then throttle back and let the thermal hunting begin.

The Trendy features a molded fiberglass forward fuselage that comes pre-painted from the factory. The aft section is a strong, yet extremely light weight tapered carbon fiber tube. The built-up balsa wood wing and tail come pre-covered in matching film covering. The wing is built in three pieces utilizing a solid center section. This leads to a lighter weight wing than a two piece option since the wing joiners can be smaller and lighter. To set the correct angle of the V-tail we've included a nifty mount designed to attach easily to the boom with guides that set the correct angle. Just a few evenings of work are all that is required to get the Trendy from the bench to the field. When choosing a motor and propeller combination, keep in mind, the maximum diameter this airplane can handle is a 12 inch prop.

With the large wing area and light weight, the Trendy is easy to launch, climbing out quickly to altitude. If your transmitter permits, set up the ailerons on separate channels, which will allow you to set crow mixing with the flaps for incredibly slow landings. The Trendy is a perfect plane for the ALES competition.

• Almost Ready to Fly - Just install your choice of motor, battery, and electronics

In addition to my previous review I have to add next: my V tail stabilizer were without holes, so it was very heavy and I can't get correct CG without additional load. So I had to create new one with holes. Next I had to shorten the tail boom a bit as well. So now the CG is OK and the plain weight is 800g with 1600 mAh LiPo.

The overall quality of the wing and stabilizers looks ok, but the wing need a spar (wooden or better carbon). The fuselage makes a cheap impression. The 3s battery doesn't fit there - there need to be created another opening for the battery. The building instructions are poor. The moving parts of rudders are not correctly moving - on one side the movement angle is OK, but to the other angle it's not enough - the moving parts has to be removed and put it again together in a better way.

1. Building
The quality of the wing and stabilizers looks ok, the fuselage makes a cheap impression. The building instructions need improvement!
It is impossible to fit the recommended 2,2 Ah 3S Lipo. With the smaller 1,3 Ah 3S the CG is too far aft, it needs additional weight of about 100g.
2. Flying
It flies very nice with a super gliding angle- until we pulled the elevator to about half deflection in a turn and the wing collapsed in the center section- and this was a normal tight turn, no acro at all!!! It is absolutely necessary to use carbon to imrove the wing stiffness. There is not even a wooden spar included.

Booked Glider 01.06.2014. Received in two months! Packaging is horrible! Simple thin cardboard. As it did not break in the mail - I do not understand.
However, the overall quality is quite tolerable. At the bottom of the fuselage has a hatch for access to the battery.
Excellent fit motor KD-A 22-20L.
