Good oleos with a little work

Sep 08, 2022

I have used these oleos on several models from 63" P47 to a 1/5 scale Chipmunk both around 5kgs weight. I found the springs a little hard so swapped for a slightly lighter spring of the same length. With another set I removed a couple of turns off the spring and realigned the last spring coil then stretched it to the original length. This allows slight compression at rest but can be seen to travel well over a grass strip. The other thing is to ensure the grub screws have a flat end to grip the flat surface on the leg otherwise they will rotate after some use. With a little care and not over tightening the grub screws they will last many, many flights.
