Turnigy Heli-Tach 3600 Optical Tachometer 1000~3600RPM

Finally, there is an optical heli-tach available that won't break the bank. Despite the low price, this is a quality unit that will provide you with accurate headspeed readings of your model helicopter. With it's wide RPM range (1000~3600RPM), it can be used for almost any size heli.

The Turnigy Heli-Tach 3600 is very easy to use. Simply adjust the RPM by pressing up or down on the side rocker switch. The LCD will display the RPM value that you currently have set. Once the dots between numbers disappear, the tach is fixed on that RPM. You will then look through the viewing window at the heli blades as it is flying, and adjust the RPM until the heli blades appear stationary. Once the blades appear stationary, the RPM value on LCD will indicate the true RPM of the heli blades.

New Feature: The Turnigy Heli-Tach 3600 now features an ON/OFF power switch on the side of the unit to easily switch the device on and off.

*Note: Never attempt to use Heli-Tach while flying your  model. Always have someone else take the RPM reading for you as you fly, or have someone else fly your heli while you use the Heli-Tach.

Kind of flimsy, but for the price it's a great value.

I have nothing to compare this to so my review is limited. I have used this tach on my 450 heli and a desk top fan- dialing the rpms up and down, I was able to get the blades on both to freeze (a cool effect/neat party trick...). I checked the numbers using 2 different smart phone apps, and I was tickled to find that all three came up with the same number. Prior to checking the answer using my phone- I didn't have a whole lot of faith in the reading, but after confirmation I fully trust it. I have enough that it is important to keep the unit oriented as close to vertical as possible, or else the speed of the drum seems to lag...

It's not the fanciest unit, but it works. I'd get it again. For the price (independently AND relative to alternative tachs, I'd say this is a value.

Tested this on my Heli 550e, was difficult to get a useful reading when the Heli was in the air. I shifted position and got what I hoped was an accurate reading. Tried it when the Heli was on the ground, this was eaiser to get a reading and it corresponded to the reading I got in the air, repeated this a few times to confirm readings and it worked out fine. Certainly value for money at $ 14,97, easy to use. Nice one HK.

Funktioniert bestens.

This is not a bad unit for the price. Mine has an on/off switch on the side so the unit can be turned off completely. I dislike the 9V connector as it is cheaply made and flimsy. It can be broken trying to unclip the battery. The tach is difficult to navigate to the target rpm since each click is only 1 rpm. You can hold the advance rocker down but then it races along and will pass the reading. With patience it can be done, eventually. I don't feel that this thing is very accurate. Headspeeds measured with more sophisticated gear are about 10pcnt from what this indicates but it is acceptable for hobby purposes.

Have used it twice since I bought it, it works as well as the more expensive ones out there on the market. Has quite a RPM range as well, which is nice if your setting your heli up for hard 3D. My complaints? Well, it is a bit noisy, and the rocker switch does stick from time to time, but I think that is because it is new and not broken in yet. But my biggest problem is that the battery seems to go dead rather quickly. And I use good batteries too. I think that it may not be turning itself off when it's supposed to. I plan on adding my own on-off switch so that I can separate battery power from the unit, then I think that will solve the problem. I would buy it again though, it is a good value, and the price you just can't beat. With a little work to it, it will be a fine instrument.

Only negatives I have about this tach are the unit is noisy and the lack of memory settings. Overall value is unbeatable!

I got the unit 2 weeks ago. Sufficient accuracy to measure the rotor speed. Have a switch built into the case later. Otherwise, the battery overnight is empty. Alternatively, the battery can also be removed after the measurement. 4 stars because there is no on / off switch.

Got my yesterday. Accuracy is sufficient for helicopter rotor speeds. Have an on / off switch installed. The battery is empty else overnight. Good unit for the price. Enables risk-free measure of the rotor speed.
