3020B Motor Review

Oct 10, 2021

3020B motor is in a 5.5 lb (2.5 kg) biplane behind a 14/7 prop. Flights are great with no untoward issues. Motor seems very small but power is plentiful.

Seems good

Mar 19, 2020

Slotted straight into an Art-Tech Diamond 2500 except shaft is longer so had to tap it back and put a 5mm brass tube spacer between the rear body and the circlip. Not flown it yet but seems to be good.

Best bang for your buck. Would buy this motor again. Very pleased with performance. Plenty of power and constructed very well.

Exact copy of the Multiplex Permax BL-O 3720 - 0630 found in the Extra 300 S Multiplex / Hitec

Apr 13, 2018

This is the exact copy of the Multiplex Permax BL-O 3720 - 0630 found in the Extra 300 S Multiplex / Hitec (and sold more than $60). The permax states 3720 and this one says 3020 but don't be fooled, it's actually exactly the same motor, probably out of the same chinese factory. 37mm is the external diameter of the clutch, 30 is the diameter of the stator in both cases.
The multiplex Permax is marketed as a 600w motor which is probably more honest. This one as a 800w but given that they are the exact same I guess the previous comment was right that this motor is closer to be 600w than 800w.
The only noticeable difference that I was able to find is that the shaft on this one is protruding quite a bit further out.
As previously said, the X fixation is useless, I bent it with my hand to test it and it broke in 2 pieces straight away. Do not use it to mount the motor!
Otherwise this actually comes with a set of screws, a prop cone, 3 golden female connectors to match the ones soldiered on the motor and even heat-shrink sleeves of matching colors, which I found to be a very nice touch.

First, this motor is longer than described. B length is 44mn, not 38mm.
Second, I tried it with multiple props (I recommend 13x11 or a longer prop (I can't use longer than 14" on my plane). Because of the low KV, it will not turn fast, about 6000RPM, so you need more pitch to get the power out of it).
Yet, despite all the props I tried, I could not get it to draw more than 40A at 4S.
As a result, it's more a 600W motor than a 800W motor.
