I've had this for a year now. Been charging my 3s batteries with no problem. But today I charged my first 4s battery, when it was full, the charger popped and magic smoke came out. Luckily I was sitting right there. The battery had 4.2 volts per cell.
Now my charger is toast. I'm rather upset it over charged my 4s battery and killed itself.Turnigy P403 LiPoly / LiFe AC/DC Battery Charger the best for the price it reel easly to useI bought this charger mainly because it had two features that I like: 1) it charges through the battery balance tap alone, without having to connect the main discharge plug too (there are not many chargers that can do that), and 2) it has both AC and DC power-input capability built-in. HOWEVER, after using the charger for a several months (and being very happy with its performance), I have to add a great big caveat to that second feature: unlike all my other chargers, the DC power input of this charger DOES NOT HAVE REVERSE POLARITY PROTECTION. That's right, one day I absentmindedly hooked up the black alligator clip to the red pole on the power source (and vice versa), and "poof"...that was the end of my charger. If it weren't for that unfortunate drawback, I would give this charger five stars. So mind that warning and be extra alert if and when using this charger with a DC power source. As an AC charger at home, it's very convenient. It remembers the last charge rate that you input, so when charging a pile of same-sized LiPos, changing batteries is a simple matter of pulling out one balance tap and plugging in the next one.Overall an excellent charger. I would never consider using any of the so called balance chargers as I worry about the degree of balancing that is possible. This unit (like the hextronik that preceded it) charges each cell individually. This is a much better and safer approach. It also drops the current to do a top-off at the end of the charge. Bedienung sehr einfach, das einzige auf dass mann achten muss: merkt sich letzte Ladestromeinstellung - falls man eine andere bentigt muss man innerhalb einer Min umstellen.Ordered mine as soon as they became available. Then re-ordered again and again a few times to keep up inventory. This is perhaps the most easily sold item from HobbyKing, at such as reasonable price, and high quality charging, with balance charge setting; yet it has been in BackOrdered state for 2 months now! :(
Charges fast and very evenly. Never gets warm, even.fantastic charger very good price
