Perfect for low price fun

Oct 27, 2018

I really wasn't expecting this car to last very long or be of good quality, but decided to give it a go anyway. I am pleasantly surprised at the durability and quality of the trooper.
I bought the Trooper for my 9 year old son to get a taste of RC. He has driven it pretty hard and it has had some hard hits into trees, etc. It hasn't broken yet and seems to be very durable.
I am running a 4000mah 2s pack and will get really good run times of around 15 minutes of driving.
Only negatives (and they are minor):
1. When the vehicle is travelling fast, the turning circle is huge and seems to under steer quite a lot. This is not a big deal as you just let off the throttle a little when turning.
2. The fan on the ESC always gets choked up with stones, sticks, leaves that get kicked up from the wheels. Sometimes you need to stop the car every 30 seconds to clear the debris out. I installed some self adhesive flyscreen over the fan and has fixed the problem.
3. Debris sometimes gets caught up in between the pinion gear on the motor and the central diff and will stop the car. Does not happen too often though.
All in all, for the money this is a great car to start out with. Very happy with the purchase.

Perfect for bashing

Apr 14, 2017

I've had this truck for a while now and for me it's perfect. It was cheap, works fine and it's a lot of fun. I only broke the body (but it looks cool with the duct tape and cable tie repairs). Haven't done big jumps yet though (I don't have a track close to me). It could be just a little bit faster but overall it's pretty good, definitely recommend it for 1st short course truck.

Giant waste of money. Never actually got to run mine for more than 5 minutes. Purchased spare parts, extra batteries. Sent into HK to fix or refund about 6 months ago. All I got back was asking if I wanted $20 back.

I bought this with some trepidation. The reviews are mixed a bit on durability. Parts availability can be challenging at times. BUT, I have bashed this thing, rolled it and run it hard. I have not made any huge jumps though as the shocks are very soft. It has been run full speed into trees and culverts. The body does have a few cracks around the posts but it has not reached the point of calling it broken. The biggest negative I have found is the turning radius at high speeds is big. If you brake going into the turns it is manageable but like everything else it is probably fixable. Maybe a stronger servo would be the cure. The bottom line is this, nothing has broken, it is a ton of fun and the dollar value is there.

I mounted an fpv set on this with a pan servo slaved to the steering servo. Scary fast to drive first person. If you are on the fence, just order it and be pleasantly surprised.

This is a great truck! I've bought one for me and one for a friend.
It's fast enough for a beginner on 2S and spot on with 3S without changing gearing.
Really easy to drive and a very simple design, with cheap parts, mostly interchangeable front and rear. Because of this I highly recommend it for a new driver.
Turn the timing down and the punch down on the speed controller with a 3S 5000mAH battery and it lasts forever too!
Buy a few suspension arms as these seem to be the weak link but they are cheap enough that it doesn't really matter.
My one criticism is the production line quality checking. Mine arrived with the ESC and switch etc dangling in the box - it hadn't been stuck down.
My friends had been packaged wrong and the body was squished up a bit and not quite straight. So give the car a good look over before you start it. If it weren't for this it would easily get 5 starts from me

I like the car a lot. My son also does. The recommended battery works really well 2S, 4 Ah, 30C. You can play a lot with one full charge. The bad news when I opened the box was the ESC came loose, hanging from the switch wires which almost were broken by the crimp area, and I had to change the leads from the switch to the ESC and put another double sided tape. Fortunately I had the spare parts from savaging a balance battery connector. Another thing was one tyre came out of the car in the first five minutes of use. The nut was loose. Please, check every fitting before use if you do not want to lose parts by the road.

STAY AWAY! Vehicle is good value for the money, but you will never get spare parts for it. And only Hobby King carries the spare parts. Nobody else does. Most parts have been out of stock for months with no end in sight. I'm thinking they just don't even carry them anymore. So you are basically SOL if you break anything on it. Summer is half over here and it doesn't look like I'll get any new parts before it's over. Buy something that has parts available outside of Hobby King, else you will regret it.

Rubbish, wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. Body is brittle and smashes, diffs strip in no time, even the alloy wheel drive hexs strip and ruin the wheels. More time spent fixing than driving.
