The thing that really strikes you about the V-Lite J3 is of course the transparent covering which allows you to see the superb quality of the construction that lies beneath. There is no doubt, this J3 has been built with weight saving in mind, in fact the dry airframe weighs a mere 1050g, amazing for an 1800mm scale model. Lightweight does not mean fragile, looking round the build of this Cub is more like looking round a precision aerobatic model!

Practical features includes a 2pc removable wing, again weight saving is a feature with the wing using lighweight alloy spars and a CF tube. The simple but strong under-carriage uses a 4 bolt pattern that spreads weight and the model also has a second mount at the rear for floats (not included). The reccomended engine is a 0.46, which combined with the lightweight airframe should give a "spirited" performance, ok it's a Cub but it's nice to throw in the odd loop, stall turn and wing over! A truly great looking model that manages to be retro yet modern, scale yet fun, it's one classy Cub!

The fuselage is strong enough but the wings are broken like breadsticks. The model flies discreetly but the build quality is not good.

What a beautiful BIG plane for < $100. I used the Turnigy G46 that is supposed to be the equivilent of a .46 gas motor. I used a Nano-Tech 5S-5000Ma battery and a 50A BlueBird ESC. With a 3-Blade 10/7 prop it draws ~ 30A at full power on my workbench and is a VERY strong combination!

The only hassle I had was installing the battery without an external hatch because you have to remove the wing. I added an external XT-60 male connector between the batt and the ESC and routed it to the gear strut. I use a female XT-60 as a shorting plug to turn the power on and off while leaving the battery installed. I get about 3 flights with the 5 Amp battery before I have to remove it for charging. It's interesting to see it has the rear landging gear mount already installed for a float kit, but it does not have any mounts for the lower end of the wing struts. Weird!

It is an impressive airplane and attracts a lot of comments at the field.

great plane, only the engine indicated (46) is a lot to it. I recommend a smaller engine: ASP S21A Two Stroke Glow Engine.

Looks good but very light balsa Yes the wings are long and the fuselage is short as the scale. But I think it would collapse if you try any flying tricks. The covering is very light and can puncture easily. And so much of a manual just few pages that tells you nothing. And you have to have experience to put it together. The windows plastic cover dose not fit in the place you have to do some magic to fit it to the body. And the axels are just screws and fitted with self looking nuts. You have to handle it with care as it may crack for slight pressure. You must cross check the balsa joining points. As mine needed to reinforce the part where the leading edge of the wings gets lodged it was lose and cracked. And you have to find a way to Cut the cowl in a way that match your engine. I shall post the flying experience soon.
