Great Project to sharpen your soldering skills, lots of surface mount components to solder on so some some skill is advised, be prepared to commit some time (Approx 14hrs) but the end results are worth the effort

Great Item Once Figured Out

Not for the faint hearted,Only buy if you are capable of soldering surface mount components took some time and effort but once completed works a treat, looses one star because of lack of instructions but once the component list was found A+
Be prepared to dedicate the build some time, I am a novice with a soldering iron and spent approx 14 hours from start to finish.

After getting the part list of this kit from another user I found one of the capacitors and the IR receiver to be missing in my kit. This and the fact that there still is no instruction available leads me to give a bad rating for this kit. I am not going to waste my time contacting HK regarding the missing parts and order them elsewhere.

I bought this product thinking about how much I love DIY projects. I first want to mention that I have an extensive background in soldering and electronics. When the product arrived I realized that this was going to be a lot harder than I thought. It came with zero instructions on where parts were supposed to be soldered on to the pcb. How are people supposed to know where the surface mount resistors are supposed to be soldered when there is no correspondence between the numbers on the parts and the numbers on the PCB. This is very frustrating and am still at a standstill with this project.

Seems a great kit, but having received it with no instructions-or any sign of Hobbyking providing an online copy-the placement of the electronic components is pure guesswork, particularly with the tiny chip capacitors and resistors (some resistors are different values, yet there is no indication on the board as to which value goes where). I therefore have no choice but to label this product as useless until someone can provide a product-specific assembly.

Note that whilst 'Instructables' guides to other LED cubes are available, these do not cover the specific component arrangement of the control board included with this kit.

Today the kit arrives well packed.

But it does not incluede a build manual or a schematic.

Next point, you have to solder very small parts ( SMD ICs, etc)! there should be a more detailed decription of the item.
