    The Fokker Dr.I was a World War I fighter aircraft built by Fokker-Flugzeugwerke. The Dr.I saw widespread service in the spring of 1918. It became famous as the aircraft in which the Red Baron, Manfred von Richthofen gained his last 19 victories, and in which he was killed on 21 April 1918.


    In February 1917, the Sopwith Triplane began to appear over the Western Front. Despite its single Vickers machine gun armament, the Sopwith swiftly proved itself superior to the more heavily armed German Albatros fighters then in use by the Luftstreitkräfte. In April 1917, Anthony Fokker viewed a captured Sopwith Triplane while visiting Jasta 11. And following several rejected versions of its predecessor the Dr.I was born and was found to be much faster, more nimble, and highly maneuverable
    On 14 July 1917, Idflieg issued an order for 20 pre-production aircraft.


    Our model captures the very essence of this formidable WW1 fighter, it has an open framework structure built from balsa and hardwoods and has a plastic cowl with molded dummy rotary engine. For ease of construction, all the parts are beautifully laser cut and are extremely accurate which will allow you to build the perfect model.


    To complete the contents of this superb kit are a pair of vintage aircraft wheels, pre-formed and drilled wing struts and U/C legs, carbon tube wing spars and joiners plus a comprehensive hardware pack that includes nuts and bolts, rods and connectors, etc.


    The Fokker Dr.I has been designed to suit a 28xx 800-1000kv brushless electric motor on a 2-3s 1300-1800mAh lipo swinging a 7-8 inch prop. 4 servos are required 2x 2g and 2x 5g which are more than adequate for the control surfaces. A 20-30amp ESC is also recommended


    Overall this is a fantastic kit and due to its ease of construction, it is perfect for seasoned builders or those with limited building experience. Once finished in an authentic textured covering 10and the addition of scale accessories such as a pilot and the included machine guns the Dr.I will really look the part and will turn many heads attacking the allied forces at your local flying field or RC flying club.

    Challenging but worth it

    As far as parts and wood go this model is excellent quality. The instructions can be a little confusing but honestly its a tough design. For the value though its worth it if you have the time to put in to build it.

    Very accurate laser cut and assembles perfectly. Some instructions would be helpful. Not for beginners as everything has to be worked out as to where it goes. The finished model is impressive.

    This is my second kit from HobbyKing. I have been building models for years, but this one is a challenge. Many small parts but I was able to slowly get it together. I would recommend it for experienced buildiers..

    Guys, my wife bought me a Banggood version of this kit for Christmas..its a box of rubbish...half the gear missing, incl 4th landing gear wing, landing gear and hardware kit from another factory Mini Extra kit, 2in foam wheels..Coke bottle cowling, no guns, no dummy engine etc. Same price...wifey ordered again from HK, arrived in 4 days, beautiful kit, everything there, no issues ..very happy..thank you HK! Dont worry about instructions, they are online, just print out in A3 and colour..perfect. The kit is very good...click and glue with CA..its self aligning..no need for full size plans...5 stars in everything..just stay away from Banggood..its factory seconds with no customer back up. Hobbyking full version is awesome!!!

    We purchased this kit after receiving a very bad kit from Banggood as a present from my wife. The Banggood kit is same price, but has lots of vital parts missing..useless box of scrap and no customer service..Banggood offered $6,-..yes 6..store credit on a $100,- kit thats worthless. Ordered same kit from HobbyKing, same price, arrived in 4 days...and perfect quality...including everything and top quality! Very happy with this kit. There is good instruction manuals online...just print it in A3...its all there :-)

    Nice, but tricky to build

    I bought this as an entry into balsa builds. With the laser-etched parts, it was generally easy to get parts off the boards and trimmed with a scalpel. BUT, the instructions are terrible. A sheet came in the box that was a 2-D view of the wing builds only; nothing on the fuselage. Here, I downloaded the 3-D version of the instructions, which help, but are miniscule if printed on a normal home printer. (I ended up taking them into Photoshop and cutting them into 4 pieces and printing them that way.) But then, I found that the parts aren't always numbered the same on the balsa as they are in the instructions; for example, the instructions have no parts that end with "-1", but there are several marked that way on the balsa.
    I appreciate being able to learn/practice balsa building (It's not done, yet.). I was not expecting matching parts to the instructions to be such an imagination sport.
