Great flyer, upgrade the landing gear.

This plane is possibly the bang for the buck that you can buy. It performs really well, can be set up to suit your flying style and ability, and except for the landing gear mount durability, it is built solid. It's been a great plane to develop my flying skill with. This plane is definitely a winner.

Good flyer- poor landing gear

Such a good flyer I bought two. I had heard the gear was weak but after half a dozen smooth landings I figured it was corrected in version 2. Alas, after a landing that wasn't perfect, the gear ripped out, the plastic it screwed into ripped out of the foam. So just be careful..

The model is very nice and finish is very good. Only the landing gear is slightly soft for taking hard landings. But value for money.

I have owned for 14 months now and have hundreds of flights on this plane. Overall a good flyer. You can see my initial review below from July 17, 2022. I have flown mostly on 3S but have several flights on 4S as well. Common complaints as others. Landing gear, paint. Eventually the aluminum gear softened from being bent so many times so I 3D printed a strong gear and backer plate and thru drilled through the fuselage and inside plywood. Attached with quarter inch nylon bolts and installed a complete axle, now the thing is nearly indestructible. Unfortunately it is now too stiff and I bounce most of the landings but the thing can handle it. I posted a 1 year video review here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmlNaBPslvg

landing gear need help

Nice plane to fly. Batteryarea is reinforce with plywood. Landinggear is achilleesheel. I drill trough the plywood and use two M4*35 bolts to secure landinggear.

Nice easy plane to fly

Fast delivery and package arrived without any damage. Easy 30 minute assembly just add a good receiver. The plane flies very well even in 5 to 10 mile and hour wind gust. Great for stunts for an intermediate to an experienced pilot for aerobatic stunt flying.
I gave it 4 stars because the landing gear bends even with a smooth landing. I had to reinforce the landing gear with thin sheet of plywood which works well. The battery hatch compartment is a little tight fit for the 3 cell battery also.I used a thin coat of clear Minwax on the airplane to prevent the blue paint from chipping and wearing off. Even with some of the negative I love flying this Dura Fly Ugly stick so much I purchased another Dura fly Ugly Stick from Hobby King.
Its my favorite plane to fly from Hobby King. Will buy again from Hobby King..

Easy to Fly

This plane was inexpensive but lacks quality in manufacturing. The use of plastic/foam materials leads to failures due to the way the landing gear is attached to the fuse. First landing the landing gear broke free and require gluing it back This repair failed again so I added a block of 1/4" ply glued to the fuse and added an additional screw to the metal landing gear for better attachment. Since this modification I have had no more issues. I recommend that if this plane is kept in production that the landing gear area be beefed up with a more solid attachment point. Several others in my flying club with this plane have had similar issues and made the same modification I made. For the money it is a fun little plane to fly.

Great second aircraft

This is a great second airplane. Cheap, flies great, capable, parts available. I installed a Spektrum AR631 because I wanted the same options I had on my first plane (apprentice sts) and I wanted my daughter to be able to transition up to this as well.
It handles the wind very well. Here along the central California coast it is always windy and I routinely fly this plane up to 18 to 20 mph winds. The main downsides are the same as others have mentioned. The paint peels off easily. If I have some sunscreen residue on my hands, I will have little blue specks on my hands after I handle it. The other drawback is the landing gear mounting. It will rip out pretty easily. I drilled the mounting out with a quarter in drill bit all the way up through the plywood plate. I then created a backer plate made out of 3 PVC cards super glued together. Think hotel key cards. I then bolted the gear on with quarter inch nylon bolts. The bolts come up from the bottom, through the aluminum landing gear frame, through the PVC backer, through the fuselage, and then through the plywood on the inside. Topped off with a flat washer, lock washer, and a nut. No issues ever since and I have hundreds of flights on this plane. The original wooden prop broke just from taxiing when I hit a clump of grass. I put on a tougher prop and haven't changed since. The battery access is a little small so a normal length 2200 is difficult to get into I use the Ovonic 2200 batteries as they are a little shorter. Overall a great flier and I recommend.

Too Soon to Tell

I received the plane for Father’s Day and assembly went pretty well and then the problem came along. When I got ready to install the prop I noticed the prop washer was missing and could not tighten the prop without it. When I started setting up the radio I found the esc was getting hot with no load on it. I contacted customer support and it was authorized quickly on 6/21 since then no word from anyone including doing the char support who told me I would be contacted when it shipped. It is now 7/16 and nothing, so if you ask me how it flies, I have no clue since a couple of the basic parts are not there. I have heard the main landing gear should be reinforced and the tail wheel needs to be reversed to keep from restricting the elevator throw. So this is my review thus far. Very disappointed with customer care and hope to be flying it one day.
