nice plane can't wait to fly it

Aug 03, 2017

always wanted this but thought it was on the expensive side until i got a flyer through selling them at £84........bought one with the recommended motor/esc set up. I don't know about anyone else but don't you think the 35/36 motor is a little bit short??? i had to use the wooden standoffs that came in the kit and even then i had to put two extra washers on the prop shaft for it to clear the front cowl....i would say you need a 35/40 motor to be near the mark.....anyway trying to figure out what prop size to go with.....but nicely made plane.

Beautiful plane Great flier Easy build

Feb 19, 2017

I have bought 3 of these. Easy to build. Easy to take off. Nice flier. Tricky to land in any cross wind, but that is true of any WWI plane. I would buy a few more if they offered them
in different colors. They also are available in Teale ( light blue ), Blue, See thru Red, and an uncovered kit. Come on Hobby King, stock the blue ones.
The main problem is that the ailerons are prone to damage during shipping. They stick out past the wings. Two out of three had damaged ailerons. They should be protected better. The good part of this is that they are easily repaired.

Close to Perfect

This Fokker DVII is a very good flying model. Its wing loading is very good for its size. With a 4s 2200mAh lipo setup and 870kv motor, it has more than enough power to take off and ascend vertically. It's very attractive and draws a lot of attention at the field. As far as value goes, I would give it 5 out of 5. Flight performance & ground handling, 5 out of 5. Quality is 5 out of 5. Appearance is 4 out of 5, because of the wheels. Overall rating = 4.5 out of 5.

A few things wrong

Nov 03, 2016

I am about 1/2 way thru assembly. One aileron tip damaged due to inadequate shipping protection. The three servo wires headed for the tail are way too flexible. I ended up replacing them with 2-56 wires with no tubing. Much better

The finish quality of this plane is of a high standard, looks awesome once its together.
would recommend this highly for a first ARF build for beginners, all holes lined up perfectly, there were no misalignment anywhere and it just fell into place, its a simple build.
will fly it next weekend and carnt wait.
Hobbyking you have done a really good job for selling this plane.

Ok, maidened the plane over the weekend, the D7 is a superb flying machine, ground handling is easy plenti of power during takeoffs and landing is a breeze. No bad behaviour when slowing down. Stick to the recommended control surface travel and younshoukd be fine!

The screws supplied for securing the bal joint support of the top wing struts to the fuselage seem to be wrong size. I had to replace all these screws and used carbin fibre rods and CA glue to permanently attach these to the fuselage but these CF substitutes feel very strong. Will maiden the fokker tomorrow and see howmit flies.

...keep it. This kit sets ARF standards back, twenty years, in my estimation, especially for the extra money we in the states have to shell-out for it. I'd expect pre-CA'ed control-surfaces and pre-glued control-rod tubes, etc, with very little extra to do. This kit is a waify electric. There's quite a bit of time and labor, to put-in on this number, and it won't be flying within 24-hour of receipt, unless you dedicate all your time and energy to it.. The pilot-bust is of WII era, too.

This is truly a nice model for the money. In comparison with the Wingnut D7 , it's not too far off.
I made cowling cheeks out of plasticard ( see file ) and wheel covers out of red craft card , cut to an 82mm circle , 5mm segment removed to form shallow cones and glued to rims with cyano . See (Balsa Hobby King Fokker DVII - 47" - RC Groups ) for discussion.

I'm setting mine up with the E-Flite SAFE controller and NTM 3536 910kV , metal-gear servos and a bit of further tinkering.

I liked it so much I've bought a second one to detail up properly. It also has a really good, useful instruction manual. Great job Hobbyking and SFM !
