good value but tricky to launch

Twelve launches, six nose dives. Plane flies well, but is very tricky to hand launch. All launches were with no wind, high temp, high humidity. Not the best conditions. Since the motor is mounted well above the c.g., the plane will dive at full rpm. If the plane is launched with low rpm, it will float or crash to the ground. The right launch rpm is very hard to determine. The wing mounts are easily torn out. Would not buy again.

The plane flies very good. Had an issue with the elevator coming off when it hit a large weed on landing. Plastic hinge inserts in all the control parts would be nice.

Having problem with props breaking not sure if its operating error or something causing props to break waiting on shipping of new blades to find out. Initially it broke 2 props on takeoff.

Newbie flyers first Bixler

I've only been flying rc fixed wings for about two months at my local rc air field and I've had the bixler out for two Sundays as of this review.
Shipping was quick and the assembly was a breeze (first time assembling a rc plane) though the manual was close to useless.
After getting it out to the field, one of the experienced fliers there helped me get it dialed in and adjusted and maidened it.
After a little trimming it was flying solo smoothly.
Even on moderate winds this thing do ya very well. It's surprisingly durable, even after a bad launch on my part nose dived it into the grass. Last Sunday I tried to fly the wings off of it and after 6 lipo packs through it it came home unscathed. The only con I can find is that the esc gets WAY hot pretty easy so I had to let it cool down often. I was cruising around doing simple rectangular circuits at about 25% throttle most of the time and never got over 50%.
All in all, this powered glider is awesome and a totally epic value and VERY newbie flyer friendly with a bit of assistance from your local airfield flyers. Recommended +1

need more time with the trainer, but foamies are easy to repair. Servos were not centered when received, luckily I have an experienced pilot to guide me. Overall I think a good starting point-pricewise and repairability. May add more when I can fly it better, for now, the hot glue gun is working !!

Such a cool little airplane!

One of the other members at the field had an older Bixler. Winds were up much too high to fly our normal airplanes, but the owner launched his Bixler, and passed the controller around for probably 20 minutes (on a single battery)! The wind kept it aloft, and we had a good time. That day, I decided to buy one, and had it a short time later. I flew it today for the second day and put five batteries through it in moderate winds. And I caught my first thermal. It kept going up and up! I flew for probably 10 minutes with the motor shut off. It also flies great in no wind. My recommendation is to line the belly with fiberglass if landing on anything but grass. Here in West Texas, we land on loose dirt and rocks, so it gets chewed up.
I gave it a four on quality because, on a somewhat imperfect landing, one of the aileron servos stripped, even though it was not subjected to any impact. BUT, the value it great!

Excellent first plane

I'm a new pilot and got the bixler as my 1st plane. I love the plane.
I have a 3000mAh 3S battery in the front (the nano-tech pack that weighs 215g), which balances the plane perfectly. I had to go full Mc Gyver to secure the battery (avoiding that it travels through the fuselage) but this is something that is not that difficult to solve.
ESC has a tendency to get really hot. Ideally, you have to alternate propellor with gliding. I also can't use full servo travel because they stall (buzz) above +-60% and this also heats up the BEC.
My tail also bent to one side after a few flights (and one unfortunate crash); I fixed this by adding tape reinforcements on the sides of the tail.
The plane behaves very very well for me; even in pretty rough weather (5Bft) it is controllable.
