It's a start

May 16, 2017

If you are new to the world of drones, this kit is a great way to get your foot in the door.

The frame is decent, but nothing special. For a newbie it may be a challenge to fit everything in the space provided, but if challenges bother you, racing quads may not be your thing. Being plastic, it doesn't take much impact to snap a motor mount off. In my case a 20 foot free fall was enough.

The motors are surprisingly powerful. I was skeptical as I pulled them out of the box because they look pretty small for a 110g frame, but they work great! Not the fastest thing in the world, but good enough to get started, and a little noisy compared to most.

I had problems with the ESCs. On my second day of flying, one of them let out a puff of smoke and grounded me. There were 4 in the kit, I bought 3 replacements, and only 3 still work. I accept that this could be my fault since I did solder them rather than use the banana plug. In any case, anyone buying this kit should buy extra ESCs.

In summary, it's a good kit to get started on, but you will most likely outgrow it very quickly.

Very Happy

Dec 18, 2016

This was my first quad (although I have flown model aircraft on and off for many years). It did take me a little while to figure out how to build up the quad in terms of connections and placements but I think all that google time is good to get a feel for the options and how the parts work.

I don't have a lot to compare it to but the it seems to fly well to me and proved durable. I had a 15m drop flat onto the belly (due to me not pushing the battery connector in firmly) and everything was OK. I had lots of hard landings that it rode though. Eventually a crash broke one of legs off (simple glue job) and when I fired it up again one of the prop blades flew off. I was surprised it took 3 battery packs for me to break a prop as a novice. All in all, for the price and as an intro to quads of this style, I am really impressed.

If you are new to this like me, be prepared to spend a bit of time figuring out how to put it together with limited instructions. It is a combo of parts after all not a kit with step by step instructions.

Nice kit

Dec 02, 2016

This is a nice little kit.

I bought it as my first quad, as have many other people. For that reason, some step-by-step instructions would be nice to include. I did OK but I have friends who I imagine would struggle. It would also be really helpful to include suggested PID values for builders who decided not to go with the KK board (I went for a Naze32).

This kit would also benefit from the inclusion of some spare props (beginners!), and some M5 locknuts for the props.

Other than those points, I think it's pretty good and I'd recommend it.

So Far so good. Built the other day and test flown within an hour.. Flight times with the 1000 mAH battery are roughly 7-8 mins with Carbon Props and 8-9 Mins with an 1100 mAH Battery from RMRC.. So much more responsive then my bigger quad. Decided on a regular KK over the mini KK I already have, but overall its a good flying quad and very strong. I haven't tried the supplied 3 blade props, I bought a ton of Gemfan 5x3 carbon Props and ABS Props from RMRC.. Just wish there was a way to hide more of the wiring, especially the wiring for the ECS's to Battery connector... Thinking of some small stand offs for the KK board and hiding it all under there?!?!?

This is my first quad build and it went without a hitch! It was super fun and easy to do once I looked at all the documents and web videos. It flies great - I'm truly amazed. Only thing I would improve is the landing legs because they do not stay in so I had to apply some CA glue. Value is great as well. Nice job Hobbyking!!

Love it, very good en sturdy construction. Wan't brake, even not at heavy crashes. Props are cheap and weak, bought some carbon 2 blade props and now it runs perfect, stable en is FAST :-)
The feet have to be glued to the frame, otherwise you will lose them.
Use it in combination with a KK2.1.5 board, latest firmware update. Don't forget to order the servo leads as these are not included.
Also ordered the USB linker to update the firmware on the ESC's, nice and easy, makes a difference

i had a mini kk2.1.5 that i stuck in this and the controller cage really doesn't like it to much. The build was really easy. Don't use the motor mount brackets just use the 2x10mm bolts and washers directly through the frame into the motors. It flies perfect and its got A TON of power. With bare essentials (kk2.1.5 mini, FS receiver, 1000mah 3s, motors , esc's) it bounces around 40pcnt throttle and gets airborne around 46pcnt. Hover from 44-46pcnt. With that setup and easy self leveling round and round flight in my kitchen to test everything out i got a little over 8 minutes of flight.

Absolutely recommend this kit for sure.
