This is my second one. Had one from Aero and now this one.
I have 2 flights on it and would like and opinion on slowing it down for landing. With the ailerons so long has anyone added flaps?
Also I have a general question. Upon landing if I glide without engine and then give it some throttle, I find the plane immediately pitches down, but just momentarily. What adjustment should I be making?

Received this plane a few weeks ago. It is a beautifully finished and nicely styled plane, but like everyone else, I had major problems trying to fit a motor into it. I ended up fitting a Turnigy 2632 1000kv brushless outrunner, with a 7x4 reverse prop, and a plastic spinner. I used a 40 amp esc I had laying around. This is overkill, as it is not pulling anything like 40 amps, but with the lighter motor, it needed a bit of weight in the nose. I used a 3s 1500mah 20c battery jammed right up into the nose. You need to jam it right in the get the canopy on. The esc was in the compartment below the battery, which also houses the nose wheel. This did not interfere with the wheel turning. COG with this setup was spot on. I took it to the airfield this morning. It needed a bit of speed to take of, like most rear engined planes and edf's do. Once airborne, I was very surprised indeed with how well it flew. I has a great turn of speed with this setup and flies like it is on rails. I had a ball with it for 5 minutes or so.

Then came the bad part. I tried to loop the plane. Probably didn't have enough speed, but seemed ok compared to speeds I use in my other planes. Anyway, it tipstalled at the top of the loop, and fell spiralling to the ground from a fair height. Damage was confined to the nose, which is wrecked, and minor damage to the cockpit. It will be fairly ea

I bought S2445-3200 Brushless Inrunner (3200kv) for my HK BD-5B and I can't use it because the shaft is to short. When I put the motor inside the fuselage the shaft part on the outside was very short to grip with spinner.

For this airplane, the motor shaft have to be 12 mm in the minimal to grip a spinner.

Great kit but lack of advice on suitable motor is a shame, I bought a HK Donkey ST380L inrunner .. Difficult to fit and when I put everything together it's way to heavy. So much weight at the back makes it very difficult to get enough the weight up at the front. I've now fitted a smal outrunner that's much lighter . Doesn't look so pretty at the back but needs must. Not sure about suitable size prop. I can't understand why HK don't recommend a more suitable motor, prop combination, it shouldn't be down to me to experiment!
Vac formings are a completely different white to the covering on the plane.
Stil for the price I can't really complain, it's great quality but is let down by the above, can't wait to fly it.

I give it 4 crowns because it copied the same mistake the AW version has, 3 degrees wing incidence when it should be closer to 1/2 degree . With the wing setting right it doesn't try to climb under power and handles smoother. Also it flies much nicer with the COG at 1-1/4" back. At 1/58" (as suggested) it's really pitch sensitive, at 1-1/4" it's awesome. Overall though very well made and fun to fly, especially if you like fast planes.

I went with an E-Flite SixSeries 2700KV motor and E-Flite's recommended 40A sensorless ESC. My all-up-weight complete is 30.4 ounces. I am getting 398.9 Watts at 36 amps with a Turnigy 2200 mAh 20/30C battery and an APC 6x4 e-prop. I hope to use a 5x5.5 or comparable as soon as I can get my hands on one.

I have posted a complete build log of my HobbyKing BD-5 at:

The airplane is finished and ready for it's maiden.

Got my kit last week or so - haven't started it yet, but t's beautiful! I thought I was missing the assembly instructions, but HK customer support pointed out that they are downloadable under the "FILES" tab on the product's site page that's cool - I never noticed the FILES tab before. Like others, my kit was missing the main wheels and the spinner no response from HK on that issue. I hope I don't find other missing parts as I go through the assembly.
