Update since its been flown.
I went with a changesun 12 blade fan and the dr mad thrust 1600kv 6s1p motor
this is deffintely my favourite jet.
it is fast, smooth to fly and with this setup a 5000mah 6s1p pack is perfect to balance the model, I have beefed up the wing with a 8mm carbon spar and glassed with epoxy the fuz join. I have installed decent electric retracts with beefed up mounts.
This model doesnt need retracts though as on this setup it flies out your hand and on the cs fan it has a sweet sound, recommend anyone to buy this model, i have just bought a second one now they back in stock, as a spare:)

Right, i havent done a bad review but this is a half hearted one.
The massive box arrived and after i had opened the box straight away i saw it.
this model had travelled and looked worse for the wear.
some arbotory HK sticker on the tail crooked.
every sharp point on the model needs straightening
the paint is rubbed off in several places so the airbrush will have to fix that
i have decided from what i have read the supplied motor/fan is not up to the task so i will be upgrading to possibly a 8s setup
The build is easier enough, but the main fuz join deff requires beefing up.
i think once i have painted it again i will give it a clear coat to protect it better

Flight report to be posted when its warm again:)

Received in only four days at home. Bigger then I suppose in web site.

good quality . I have used a HK 125A ESC end external SBEC 8A, because I have 8 servos (size 9gr) plus retract gears.

It fly very well with 3700mhA zyppy compact because it is only 2520gr weight. I have apply flaps so I can make very slow handing.

I suggest it as first edf JET.

Marco.

great plane and so easy to fly, one suggestion though - don't assemble the wheels and throw it then land on grass

Plane came double boxed, when I took the parts out many had dents and dings in them, nothing major but disappointing.

The plane went together easily and didn't take long. The motor was installed in the EDF unit already and seems well balanced.

I had the maiden flight on the plane yesterday and it fly's very nicely. ITs easy to fly and has a good roll rate. The plane isnt that fast, but this can be fixed with the 12 blade, 1000kv EDF unit I have here! :)

The only bad point of this plane is the landing gear is horrible, they bend very easily. I had 4 landings yesterday and all well smooth and not hard touch downs, but on each landing the struts bent. Also one wheel seized up.

All in all I am happy with this plane and I would recommend it to others. I would also buy another if i smash this one.

5/5

Just got one last month. First thing i noticed - the frame of plane was damaged with little wholes in the body of plane. I thing post office is responsible for this but it was too damn good packed so i dont know.

2) the servo of one of elevator wings is reversed. You must cut it of and turn it 180 degrees.

3) The landing gear is made for retractableing. But there is no retractableing mechanism included, even it is not in required things!

But never mind you can buy it here:

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=12667

4) Parts are pretty easy to assemble, but glue is not good enough so think on it when you will be buying this model and order some stronger like cyanoacrylate for EPP.

5) Battery bay is not well resolved. But with a little skill you can do it better :)

6) Ower this all It is a damn good looking airplane and for very good price. Im soooo excitet to fly with that thing! And SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH guys. Thans! :)

I got my L-39 Albatros 2 days ago & proceded to check everything out. The packaging for transport was great (from the outside).

Upon opening the box it all was very well placed in the box etc, the problem I found was the packaging Q.C. at the makers , is well shall we say a bit slack.

1)The top of my tail was broken off, from where the packing person had missed when heat sealing that particular bag.

2) The wheel mounting brackets were all loose. They are actually retract bases (with none of the electronics or motors so they are fixed/retracts) If you wish to put the rest of the retract gear in you can order it from HobbyKing PRODUCT ID: HKS-1106 (Under $40)

3)The motor's cone had been overtightened & split. The motor itself was loose in its fan mounting.

4)The fan was rubbing

5)The hinges are a complete joke IMHO

HEY what is with the NO RUDDER. Im new to jets but this thing has no tail servo the rudder is fixed, Before writing I did check theo REAL L-39 & they definatly have a rudder. I'm going to mount a servo into the tail itself & cut the rudder free & hinge it. I will post any mods I do in the discussion section.

Dont get me wrong!!! At the price.... I LOVE this plane....

Maidened the big bird today... Running a Lander 90mm EDF and 3675Kv motor with HobbyWing 100A-ESC...Its a big pussycat on 6S happily & scale-fully leaping into the sky at the end of a 50 meter run... Its no speed demon on 6S with no nasty habbits or tendencies so am going to try 7S ... In stock set-up I have had to add 175g of lead into the nose-cone running a 640gm Nano-Tech 6s 4000MaH Li-Po or Turnigy 6S 3000Mah...

If connected in series I can run both 4S & 3S @ 4000Mah at around 900 gm which means my 175gm in nose will need to be halved to 80 to 90gm and added to tail for rough CoG ( better nose heavy than tail is the rule ) ...

Im really happy this ship performs so nicely, I put a bit of work into it so was quite anxious...Now all I can think about is maybe getting a Wemotec 90mm running 8s and this thing will HONKY-TONK !

( still stand by my last post of buying the ARF and starting from scratch )

Mine arrived today. WOW! What a great edf jet. Looks great, retracts work well. It is bigger than I thought it would be. Some loose screws in the edf unit but a little locktite fixed this. Can't wait to fly it. Just waiting for the weather to improve on my days off work.
