I don't know who designed this model but what an appalling waste of money. I read about the other failures but after being an aero modeler for 30 years I thought I'd give it a try.
Firstly I moved the entire fan unit towards the front buy creating an access port on top of the fuselage just in front of the vertical stab.
I then made a custom tube for the rear as the "supplied" sheet wasn't supplied.
The CG was Ok as I had the battery well forward in the nose.
Power was a 10 blade 70mm alloy Changesun fan with 3700kv outrunner on 4S 70C Thunder Power 3700mah
Not a chance it would fly on this combo.
You could I suppose use 6S but it would be way to heavy, and there is the problem the WING LOADING is wrong their is just not enough area for the weight it has.
A real shame as this thing could be an absolute Bullet if the wing area was increased by 25pcnt min.
I would doubt if anyone has got this airborne for more than a few seconds.
The only saving grace would be if you could find out the wing section and if it's OK it might make a good slope rocket for 20 knot days.

Could somebody advice for motor, lipo and ESC for a set up (with the included fan unit) that reaches over 100 mph. Thanks.

Of course no manuals in box, but I found manuals in download section and quality of manuals is quite poor and you have to improvise many details. Model does not fly well and it is very unstable. The only thing this model does well is fast burning since it's made from polyester rather than epoxy. Check video section how this model is burning - I hope HK will allow this.

I bought the L-39 and then had buyer's remorse after reading on the web the misfortunes other folks have had with the plane. I decided to build the plane as light as possible so I skipped the gear and made it bungie launch.

The building instructions are really poor where it describes hooking up the elevator. If you put the servo and control rod in the center as they suggest, there's no room for the thrust tube. Instead, move the control arm over to the side wall and install the servo at the base of the fan on the side. That will give you a straight run for the control rod and keep it out of the way of the thrust tube.

Flying the plane is a joy, plenty of power and at this weight I haven't found any bad habits yet. Here are the numbers I came up with for my L-39:

Weight = 1221 grams / 42.99 oz

Wing span = 77.2958 cm / 30.4314 inches

Wing area = 12.718 dm 2 / 197.19 sq. in. or 1.369 sq feet

Wing loading = 42.99 oz/ 1.369 sq ft = 31.394 oz/sq ft

=1221gm/12.718 dm 2 = 96gm/ dm 2

At 31.394 oz/sq ft I only recommend buying this plane if you're going to bungie launch it. Going to higher wingloadings to get gear/retracts just isn't worth it in my opinion.

Flies like a brick. I set mine up with a 2200 4s batt and a delta V15 fan. 850watts and 1.2kg static thrust. still wasn't enough. cg in manual is wrong as well. Very tail-heavy, out of control and crashed. completely destroyed in about 30 seconds. fail :(

This one is not for novice modellers. Even after downloading the manual I've still managed to make a few errors while assembling this one. I'm hoping it'll fly good when its finished! Elevator surfaces and servo setup is very tricky. The servo is hidden inside the rudder, above the fan. Attaching the wings is difficult. The fiberglass stiffening spar is short and not precise, its all up to you to make sure the wings are glued perfectly. Theres no predrilled location or mounting holes, just the loosely fitting spar. And my vertical stab has quite a twist in it... I don't know how I'm gonna straighten that yet. Other than that it looks nice, glasswork is pretty good, wings look ok. Good ducting. With some careful building I think it'll turn out ok.

CAREFULLY READ YOUR MANUAL AND TEST-FIT EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU GLUE IT!!

I got caught out when assembling the elevator, and check your fan will fit when the elevator servo is installed.

Firstly the plane is well packed and the fibreglass and paint work excellant. The build is not easy and the manual under files online is not good. The retracts the manual suggests do not fit as they are 17mm thick and the wing at that point is 19mm. You need to be very careful fitting the wings, I found after gluing them in that the right wing had more twist than the left. Also I follow the manual on the c of g and found that it would be better if it was slightly forward ie 75mm from leading edge of the wing. Test flight was a disaster. The plane was tail heavy and wanted to roll to the left severly. I lost control completely after struggling for twenty seconds and destroyed the model. In hindsight with the above info I may have had more success.

How does this plane fly? I am looking for a 100 mph cruiser that is classy looking and pretty...which this plane seems to be. I plan on installing a mid to high KV inrunner with 4 cells-has anybody already done that or can someone give a good description of the flying characteristics from takeoff to landing? Thx.
