Now that i have finally built this kit, i thought it'd be a good time to review.
I usually work with depron sheets so this foam board was a new challenge. It's nicely cut and all pieces fit together very well. I'm running mine on a 2200kv motor on 4s with a 5x5 prop. The plastic motor mount provided help with this setup as it grips to the foam board tightly. I've added rudders and ailerons that help a lot with acrobatic flight and flat spins etc. The only part that is a negative with this kit is the paint to control surfaces - You'll have to remove the painted areas where you tape your surfaces or they'll easily come off as the paint separates from the foam board a little too easily. Apart from that, it's a decent kit and saved me cutting out from scratch - i'm getting old i think! If you've built before, this will be a simple build. If not, some common sense and caution must be applied.Looks great and flies well.
The hinge cuts on the elevons were too deep and caused one of them to separate in flight. Thankfully I managed to recover the aircraft with no major damage. Reinforced the hinges with tape and it now performs as expected.I love this plane! Super durable! It has taken many rough landings. Easy to build (Gorilla Glue) It works well with a 2204 2100kv motor and a little 4 inch triple blade prop. With this little 4 inch prop, the blade tips don't extend below the body, so they cannot hit the ground. It flies with a 1000mAh to 2200mAh 3cell.
The CG needs to be a little farther forward than recommended.
Also, I gave mine a bit of a nose-job. (trimmed it back a little)
I would prefer to have pull to positive on the control surfaces, but it still works as is.
Also, this foam is amazing! I would like to buy some sheets of it!This plane is fun to fly, it can fly very fast but it can fly slow as wel.
I have got a 2600kv motor in it and use a 2200 3s lipo from turnigy.
You have to use a lot of expo on it because the elevons are sensetive at speed but you need the bigger throws at low speed and landings.
I am thinking to ad a rudder funktion to it.Test flight of Hobbyking Mig-29 foambard kit.
