Good value Sailboat

Correctly rigged and set up this is a very good performer and exceptional value for money.
Unfortunately the instructions are incomprehensible and the sail winch has far too much travel but if you can get the help of an experienced model sailboat person you well end up with a very enjoyable boat.
I now love my Surmount!

as already said, get ready to use the pictures on the website to rig your boat. Directions are not too useful. I completely filled the ballast bulb with lead shot and taped over the hole,no epoxy needed. Watch some youtube videos for some idea of rigging. I experimented and found that the jib boom and mainsail boom need to be parallel, that the sail should pull away from the boom about an inch or so to create a good foil, and that the sails must be similarly curved to direct air properly. The trailing edge of the sail needs to be relatively taunt to create a good foil; make sure to plug the hole in the transom with the plug provided, and use the decal to seal the plate over the rudder servo once you get things setup, otherwise you get some water in during sailing. I used an aircraft receiver (orange rx from HobbyKing) and a 4.8V NiMh battery pack to power the servos and receiver. I set the travel to 30pcnt for the sails on my aircraft transmitter and it seems to work great. This is a fun little sailboat and a good bang for the buck!

I ordered the Surmount on monday, delivered on wednesday (EU warehouse), so excellent postal speed.

The Surmount came nicely boxed with foam at the ends for protection. Accesoires well packed in boxes and bags, no missing parts.

The manual is in Chinglish, translated by google into eh...eh... there are words and pictures in there, so shut up and start assembling.
The mast connector didn't fit but was jammed into place anyway, a light bend but it'll work as required. Mast and booms are black, nice. Lines were nicely winded on cartons and everything looks excellent, specially the hull.
I replaced all the lines for dacron kite wire (25dan) as the stock wire seems a bit flimsy. The dacron also slides more smooth through the deck.
Bulb filled with soft lead from the diveshop (they have bags with 1-1,5mm leadshot) Filled bulb showed aprox.1100 gram on the scale, filled the hole with epoxy and epoxied the bulb-fin-hull connections. Made a small wire in the drain plug to prevent loss and covered the rudder servo to prevent tangled up line in there. It's not as perfect as a 250 dollar boat....cause it isn't :-) but it's except the radio and lead for bulb completely RTR, upgrades are not mandatory at all (didn't sail it yet)
Would recommend and buy again.
Now waiting for epoxy to dry and go sailing.

Received my Surmount and was impressed with the quality and ease of the build. I could only get 945 Kg of #9 lead shot in the bulb but it sails very well. I would recommend this sailboat to any one that wants an inexpensive sailboat that performs well. I don't race but love to sail around the small pond I have close to me. Most days the wind is 5 t0 10 MPH and the boat can get and go and not lean over to much. Thanks to HK for providing such a sweet sailboat for a very affordable price.
