Have built with both DJI F550 and the HK S550 platforms and much prefer this frame for its scalability. The DJI frame may be a little stronger and more rigid but probably not so much that it would matter in most crashes. The S550 has noticeably improved stability in descent with its angled arms over the flat frames. Lift-offs seem more stable too. It's simple to add the HML 650 retractable landing gear, which is a really cool feature at this price point. I replaced the 2.5M standoffs with 3M aluminum standoffs so I could bolt the landing gear directly to the frame with minimal hardware. Looks like a mini commercial platform with the gear up, hanging a gimbal and a GoPro.
I built mine with a NAZA M V2 FC (for use with Zenmuse/Hero); Multistar Elite 2312-980s; DJI 9450 props; 20A Afro ESCs and a Zippy 6200 LiPo. With all the cool multi-function BECs out there (like the Matek 5 in 1), integrated PDBs aren't really necessary but I still tend to use 'em if I got 'em.
The 2312s might be a bit on the small side but this build is a rock stable and capable GoPro platform.

Great frame, very happy with my purchase.
Very good quality parts and hardware, goes together quick and easily, instructions are basic but adequate. Built in PCB is very neat and easy to solder up.

This frame is an excellent upgrade from the traditional dji 550 frame type, much smoother on decent. The usb port is also very useful when using an apm system for ease of access. all in all I would highly recommend this frame

compre este frame S550 en reemplazo del H550 que parti en un choque. Me parece mucho mejor, es mas liviano, y el diseo de los brazos con cierto angulo hacia arriba le da mas estabilidad. Mi setup es: hkpilot mega 2.7 FC quanum 3110 470kv motors turnigy plush 40A ESC 10x4.5 propellers 6S 8000mah lipo batt.
El tiempo de vuelo con camara y gimbal y haciendo trafico es de 18 minutos aprox. Volando solo en hover me da un tiempo de vuelo de 23 a 24 minutos.

it is a very nice frame, well designed, with serious and the knowledge of the job. with the dji 2212/920 motors and ESC and the 9x4.5 carbon propellers, it is a very good challenger for the basic 550.

Upgraded from a alloy frame and trimmed 240 grams of my flying weight, more flight time and the upswept arms really help the stability especially on desent. Quality is top notch, went together in one night. Will buy another for a spare.
