tryed all red sensored 4270 from hobbyking (2014-2019 years) ... 2400kv - beast on 4s highest torque but 160A is real...not every esc survive , 2150kv - so so - both with delta (triangle) windings , but 1900kv is the best one with star winding, very economic, but the best stall torque/current(power) from 4270 or 4274 sensored, on torque it overperforms sensored blue HW 2200kv 4274 also best one... have 5 such motors, usually use with TS150A (or HK clone trackstar 150A ) , toro 8s esc. thanks Hobbyking for it.

OK but failed pretty quickly

Jul 01, 2021

Purchased as just started out running an e buggy, worked OK but did seem to lack a bit of punch compared to the other cars on the track when paired to a HW max10 SCT esc. After about 10 packs the motor started cogging pretty bad. Tried different punch and timing settings but to no avail. Purchased a HW 1900kv motor and the performance is night and day, I understand the Hobbywing motors are designed to work with their esc's but its a good 20% more power.

Haven't found a problem yet (except broken sensor cable)

Aug 17, 2017

I want to build autonomously RC racing robots for the event (www.donkeycar.com)
I got this motor, to pair with the Berserker 1/8 chassis, and a 120A 3S sensored ESC also from HobbyKing. It's driven by a 3S 5200 mAh Graphene LiPo. Also, a Solar D771 servo for steering, and finally a FlySky FS-GT2E to do some manual driving. Almost all of it from HobbyKing!
The motor is rated up to 4S, but the ESC only does 2S or 3S, so I run it at 3S. I run it with the sensor. I program it in "rock crawler" mode with high braking force and the lowest settings for timing advance and low speed boost. The point is: I want torque and low speed control even more than I want highest possible top speed. Even with a 60 Hz camera, if I'm going too fast, the computer will just have a blur to look at, which does not help.
Anyway, even geared down as much as possible, driving this 4S rated motor at 3S, when punching the throttle, there's very quick response. Similarly, the braking action is noticeable; the wheels will stop and the Berserker will skid. While the Berserker claims it wants 4082, I run this motor on it and it fits fine. There's even a couple of more millimeters to spare.
I had to solder the power connectors myself, which was fine (I have a permanent soldering station set up) and the speed controller came with pre-stripped wires, which fit right into the castellated connectors on the motor.
One caveat: The motor came with a sensor cable, but one of the cables had broken off from the connector. If I had used it, the sensor wouldn't have worked. Luckily, the ESC also came with a sensor cable. Also, neither the chassis, nor the motor, came with mounting screws; the good news is that, because this motor is made to work with both M3 and M4 screws, M3x6 screws will work fine (2mm goes to the mounting flange; 4mm into the motor.) The draw-back, on the Berserker chassis, is that with the motor in the appropriate engagement of the pinion to the drive cogs, the A phase connector leans very close to the center aluminum frame strut. I jammed some electrical tape in between to make sure there's no accidental short. The broken sensor cable, and the lack of mounting screws, bump down my rating for quality.
All in all -- this gets me where I want to go, on a budget I can afford, and I haven't found any flaws with the motor itself! Hopefully it will stand the test of time, as well.

This motor is a gem, it does everything right; low speed torque aswell as nice top end speed, i run it in my 1/8 Summit with a Hobbywing 120A V3.0 although i would recommend using a 150A or higher if you want to get the most out of 2s/3s performance since it running hot at higher timing settings.
Go with a 150A esc capable of running 4s-6s it will keep things cooler and way faster.
BL 4 pole sensored is the way to go on big heavy rigs like the Summit.
