Why do we need a smoke or fume extractor while soldering?

Soldering requires the use of a flux, flux is primarily composed of a rosin resin mixed with a small amount of pine resin activator (a halogen organic agent. The main component of rosin is abietic acid, at soldering temperatures abietic acids denature to neo abietic acids. This process generates noxious components such as salycylic acid and pinene which are released in the evaporating smoke/fumes. The types of flux using large quantities of resin also generates phenol, and the pine resin activator generates hydrogen chloride.

These are the replacement filters for the 493LH table top extractor fan. Each filter is impregnated with activated carbon to efficiently capture contaminents to effectively purify the air.
