HobbyKing and the Avios Team have collaborated with RC Groups to provide this excellent rendition of the real Extra 300 LX owned and flown by RC Groups founder Jim Bourke. The original planes color scheme was worked on by Italian designer Mirco Pecorari and is based on the RC Groups color scheme.

The Extra 330 LX is powered by a Lycoming AEIO-580 motor and a low-wing monoplane that offers exceptional aerobatic performance. It comes as a two-seat, tandem arrangement with conventional (taildragger) landing gear.

Our latest plug and fly Extra is made of EPO foam with a realistic color scheme and is big enough to provide great presence in the air. It is powered by a 4240-600KV brushless outrunner with a 14x7 propeller allowing you to enjoy all your favorite aerobatic maneuvers and push the envelope when flying 3D. Even the classic stunts like big loops and hammerhead stalls will be so easy due to the ample power provided. Even more complicated 3D maneuvers like hovering and rolling circles can be done with ease.

Get the Extra 300 LX now and remember the Sky is your Playground.

A great plane!

May 17, 2019

This aerobatic model works well. Some people doubt that it will perform on 3s, it will. I tend to want long up lines, so I upgraded the ESC to a Talon 60 and fly it on 4s. This makes the model ballistic! Most of my routine requires between 1/2 and 3/4 throttle. With proper throttle management, I can fly for 7 1/2 minutes.I compare this plane to the Horizon Extra 300, as they are very similar in size and performance. I own and fly both. My only complaint is that I wish it had a larger and more realistic Pilot. It is a good buy and a good plane, nuff said.

A fine plane

May 12, 2019

This is simply a fine, solid airplane. It has plenty of power with 4s, but ballistic on 5s. I put in a Flex Innovations Aura and it flys as if on rails whether windy or calm. An equal to Horizon’s Extra which has AS3X. I did replace the ESC with a Talon, but that was my call.

3D out of the box

Jan 24, 2019

Really love this plane. Knife edges, tumblers, waterfalls with ease. If you zlý in strong winds, put out the winglets. The wind can push your wing out of the fuselage in sharp turns! Also the color peels off too easy. Besides these two flaws , good job HK and RCg

Good and fun plane, but some improvements would be nice

Oct 29, 2018

Balance is neutral with a 4000 mA, 4S battery almost touching the firewall. I do not know if people flying it with 3300mA batteries are adding extra weight for balancing but in mine it would be required.
Flying time with 4A, 4S is over 13 minutes in relaxed circuits and 8 minutes in more aggressive flying (not hovering).
Tail wheel springs are too stiff and load the rudder. I replaced them with springs made with 16mil piano wire ~5mm diameter. Good steering on the ground and almost no load to the rudder servo under full deflection.
Remove all screws, motor and motor mount and apply threadlocker. Motor came loose after ~10 flights and all screws were completely loose.
Landing gear and wheel pants lasted only one "not-so-rough :-) " landing in 2 inch grass. Once the aluminum landing gear is bent you can easily bend it back to the original shape, but its strength is significantly reduced and keeps bending even is good landings in grass.
So, 4S, 4A batteries and ~$30 extra to replace the landing gear (carbon fiber 130x355x150x30mm), wheels (3.5in x 1in), drop the wheel pants and replace tail wheel springs (homemade) and you have a very nice plane for tall grass fields.
It glides surprisingly well and allows from easy and relaxed to full 3D.

Not a bad plane, but not without problems

Oct 08, 2018

Bought one solely based on Michael wargos flight video and the paint scheme!
One of the more easier planes to assemble out of the box, for some reason people complain about the spinner but it hasn't been a problem with me.
Static thrust is at about 70 odd amps with the stock prop, considering it comes with a 60amp ESC this seems a bit stupid... It has decent flight characteristics with all the usual flat spins, knife edge (man it's good at knife edge), inverted with minimal input! but with the odd tip stall every now and then.
The only thing it wouldn't do was hovering and high alpha, that was until the prop was changed. It went from the included 14x7 (I also tried an aerostar CF 14x7) to an 15x4. Some of the speed does get lost but thrust was increased dramatically! Locks perfectly into a hover now, high alpha is still a bit hairy... But is achievable. Also the amps have gone down to the low 60 amp range.
The only things I would change out of the box would be an 80amp ESC, the motor as it has some magnet problems and the overly tight springs for the tail wheel.

Good but nor perfect

Jul 09, 2018

Made 7 batteries in windy weather. This plane is not good in windy weather, especially with winglets on. The wind pushed my wing out of the plane body, when turning opossite direction, resulting in a loss of one aileron. Because the aileron lost power, it hangs there and worked like a flap, imagine landing that in strong wind :) But the plane survived. In small or no wind, this is the best EPP aerobatic plane with real looks i have flown, making knifes and harriers a piece of cake. The paint finish looks great, but if you hit even a wasp or something similar, it peels of :D Overall, good plane but need to be finished. The holding mechanism of wings is weak for 3D and windy weather and the paint need aditional colorless finish.

Super model

Apr 09, 2018

Well finished kit which goes together without glue and all parts fit exactly - no sanding or fitting required. Quality is certainly above average and still worth the cost.
Maiden excellent with only a minor click or two of up elevator. Would suggest a slight reduction of aileron and elevator throw for the maiden as the plane is responsive and would allow you to get used to the aerobatic movements.
I use a 3300mah 40c battery and get up to 5mins but if using high throttle would need to land at 3mins as can be quite hard on the battery at high throttle.
Great plane and landings are a treat as it glides and glides for quite a distance ......
Wing attachment idea is good and have no problems with how they attach - will keep a close check.
Really recommend this as a fantastic throw about and enjoyable plane.

Good

Jan 20, 2018

I have done about 10 flights, Putting it together is easy, no glue required, which is a bonus if any repairs are needed in the future assuming replacement spares become available it will make an easy swap.
Tested at 74 amps (note 60amp ESC 70burst) 1114watts Nanotech 3300mAh 4s, with 3.3kg of thrust. I detuned the throttle endpoint to lower the currant going through the esc.
Reduced throttle limit to 65%.
Tested at 50 amps (note 60amp 70burst esc) 713watts Nanotech 3300mAh 4s, with 2.8kg of thrust.
I was getting a vibration with the prop spinner fitted so I removed it. I also removed the tail wheel springs that are linked to the rudder, they load up the rudder servo too much, so I rearranged the parts and used the springs to keep the wheel centre. (rudder steers just fine on the ground).
Nice big wheels on the mains which is nice to see as I use a grass strip. I was sceptical of the clip in style wings but after using them at the field it is too easy. The plastic motor mount looks weak, only time will tell if it holds up. For the price ($290AUD) and what you get I am happy with this model.
