Fixing it on EPS park plane

Nov 11, 2016

I got this motor with stick mount to change a brushed one on an eps park warplane (88cm span). As I test the fitting, it goes on it right, it's smaller, lighter and better than the brushed, takes stronger lipos, so flights faster and more, as lighter.

I should put 8*4 prop, 15a esc and 3s 1000mah lipo.
It's nice to try it.

so now that I've had this motor for a whole season, Ill finally write my review. This is a very nice motor. I've flown this with a 2 cell 500mah battery, 10amp ESC and 8x6 prop pulling approx. 300g at 8 amps. flight time of 13 mins. I've also used this with 3 cell 1000mah 15amp ESC and 9x5 and 9x7 prop pulling approx. 600g at 14amps both left the motor only ever slightly warm with a flight time of 10mins really cranking out some hard 3D. I do not recommend anything larger expecially for 3D. The stick mount heat sink makes for easy mounting. a piece of 3/8x3/8 basswood glued right to the plane.

This little motor coupled with a 12a Plush Turnigy ESC makes my Budlight Stick Flyer an all day floater and a joy to fly. The plane at 12.25 oz (350 gr) with a 1000 mah lipo seems to fly forever. The scratch built plane from trash recycling components is probably the least expensive rc plane possible. I used an 8.5 x 4.7 prop and it seems to keep the power requirement just right at 5 amps on a 7.4v battery and 9.5 amps on 11.1v.

I now have 5 of these not because they are defective but because its the best motor of this size I've ever run. As I said in another review , this motor has sealed ball bearings and really good wire harness. I recommend this motor be run with 3 cell lipo packs, it will produce about 2 times the rpm than a 2 cell pack. Here is some figures I've come up with testing this motor. Run time...10 min with 3 cell 1000ma lipo...17 min with 1500ma lipo. I have been using 12 amp Esc(hobby king) full power on all tests. Motor and esc bearly got warm, even at full power. The heat sink really helps to pull all the heat @ away from motor.

Strong Motor, copper windings looked neat and precise. Excellent thrust and when flying at half speed it's barely audible. Mounted it to my GWS Slow Stick and had a fun afternoon. Big difference coming from the old brushed 360 gear boxed motor it came with. ground take off into the air in less than 10 ft and didn't disappoint me once. The only issue I had is the long shaft, I prefer to use a prop saver for obvious reasons, so having to dremel off the extra length was an inconvenience but not enough to knock off any stars, that's part of the hobby doing your own mods.

This is an example why Hobby King is so good. I boutht 5 of them just to have spares. Thus motor is a lot higher quality than I expected, the way they kept the price down was to use a steel bell all the way around the motor(most have an an alloy head. This motor has 2 sealed ball bearings! Outstanding quality for a low price.
