The HobbyKing Inventor Portal is our program that connects creators with our product development, engineering, and manufacturing divisions. If you are the creator of a unique product and would like the chance to work with us to bring your product to market, then this is your chance!
This is not a promotion or a publicity stunt. We’re constantly on the lookout for creators with unique, diverse, and intriguing ideas.
Feel free to submit as many potential ideas as you’d like, whenever you’d like! You can’t put a deadline on creativity. Remember, there is no such thing as a bad RC idea. Show us what you got!
How to be qualified for the Inventor Portal?
Anyone can join the Inventor Portal program, however, to be qualified for consideration, your idea/invention/technology must be original, and you must be able to contribute a significant portion of the design and development process as the creator.
How Do I Earn Money from the Program?
If your idea is selected for production, you will receive either a one-off design fee OR royalty that is paid at 5% of the retail price per unit sold.
How does the Inventor Portal work?
Email us at marketing@hobbyking.com with your idea and include the below information:
• Subject Line: Inventor Portal Proposal
• Name: The name of your invention you are disclosing
• Description: 3-5 sentences describing your idea/invention/technology, the possible uses for it, who would be interested, etc. Attached a signed copy of the NDA to protect your ideas when being proposed and a record of when it was first proposed to us.
• Names and email addresses of all researchers/inventors involved in creating this idea/invention/technology
• Optional: Public disclosure date, reasons for disclosure, suggested keywords for your idea
What to Expect After the Initial Email?
After sending us your proposal, we will be notified, and the Head of Product will be in contact with you shortly to discuss your idea further.
• We will discuss the concept further and sign the NDA if we are interested in continuing further discussions. The NDA protects your ideas when being shared and is a record of the timeline of when the concept was first discussed.
• If you are under the age of 18, grab a parent or legal guardian to complete and sign the NDA document together.
• With the necessary documentation and agreements signed, you now have a chance to discuss further and for you to feature/present/demo your ideas in any method that is best for you.
• You are more than welcome to present your ideas in PowerPoint decks, 3D prints, CAD files, video clips, or physical models.
• Additional written documentation, blueprints, preliminary sketches, and any other items that can illustrate your idea are also acceptable.
