What might have been if FMS had done a little more refining in the wing strength area.
After receiving the Alpha I added another carbon spa to the wings and reinforced that with a layer of Epoxy and glass cloth.
As I don't trust landing gear mounted in foam, the undercarriage was removed but the mounting points were left in place and a layer of epoxy and light glass cloth was added to increase scuff resistance on belly landings.
For the first 10 flights I must say it was a delight to fly, maybe a little under-powered but overall a good performer in the air.
Then the inevitable happened, just after take off I performed an easy left bank at which point the Port wing folded and the Alpha went into the ground like a Dart :(
From reading other posts I'm not the only person who has suffered this fate, the wing broke at the root, this is clearly a design flaw which renders this model not fit for purpose.
This is not HobbyKing's fault but as the Retailer they should be making FMS as the Supplier of the Alpha aware that this fault is in the aircraft and it should be rectified.
It's not the money side of it as it was good value.
But $128.00 / 10 flights = 12.80 per flight and that's not good value :(

Hello fellow pilots
Ok I must say this foamy did catch my eye when I first saw it on HK
I was very happy with how fast I received it and how well it was packaged.
It turns out to be a great trainer for someone wanting to get into EDF flyers.
In my honest opinion this is the best bang for your buck.
All you do is a little assembly and add your receiver and battery and your on your way
This flies very easy and stable
You will need to add weight to the back to get the right CG.
After flying Dassult Alpha few times I figured I had a need for more speed
Were I fly its over 6000 feet of altitude here. So air is very thin.
I Upgraded this bird with a Hi-Max 2825-3600 Motor 3600 kv .
And a hot 70mm 5 blade fan, and to top it off I installed a 65amp esc and a
Zippy compact 4s 4500 35c Battery.
Oh Ya this bird has some punch now I also upgraded my control
Surfaces with better hinges and horns. Just to be on the safe side.

I've ordered about 12 planes from HK so far and generally Ive been happy with them. unfortunately, that's not the case with this one (Dassault Alpha Fighter 70mm). I opened the box to find that the tail section, right at the 2 rear servos, was broke off. As I examined the fuselage, I noticed how cheap the foam appeared, in comparing it to my other "real' EPO planes, there was a vast difference in the material, it was very thin and brittle like a drink cooler. I'm not sure what kind of foam this jet is made of, but it sure doesn't look like it's EPO type foam. This is my first true disappointment ordering from HK, I'm sorry to say it gives me pause about ordering more planes from them.

Bought this last Christmas.... Flew in March{weather].and has flown on numerous occasions. I initiallyused lipo 2200 4s, but duration about 3-4mins so i putin a 3300 Lipo and and get around 6-7- mins. I havent uprated fan , so it flies slwer but positively , and I reckon it would be a good TRAINER..........Give it a good high speed dive and i get high loops.Well worth 74 ukp.............

Ein sehr schnes Modell er fliegt sich echt gut und er sieht sehr gut aus am himmel.



Habe ihn auf einen 10Blatt Rotor umgebaut und der sound ist echt top und es sind ein paar mehr Kmh drinn nur mit nem 4S 2200mah akkus ist der flugspa nach ca 2 minuten rum.



Aber im groen und ganzen ein guter preis fr das modell.

Shipping was very fast. The portuguese air force acrobatic team color theme is very nice. The assembly is easy but I had to make some modifications for mount the main wing and the tail had some extra foam that I removed. I also had to carbon rods to the main wing for make it more rigid during I speed maneuvers and for holding a power upgrade that I could make later.
It's really easy to fly, it could be named "Trainer Jet". No bad tendencies, it flies very well on slow speeds. The stock power setup is enough for pull acrobatics maneuvers. Looks very scale in th air and also on the ground! Recommended for all edf beginners. Happy flights!

this is a great plane to fly its very docile and is not to fast so good for beginners although the front landing gear bent on first landing and the back left gear completely ripped off aswell as having to carve out the canopy because the battery wouldn't fit but despite that it is a very good plane to fly

Trs belle maquette du dassault bien que qualit ne soit pas de l epo mais plus de l eps, manque un peu de puissance quand mme pour une turbine de 70mm.je l ai quipe de trains rentrant pour un vol plus raliste, avec des roues 7075 alloy shock absorbing strut set et trains rentrant mini servoless adjustable pour un poids total en ordre de vol de 1,2 kgs au lieu de 1,1kgs.super vol dont video reste a faire, voir lien files pour photos et video des trains rentrants montes.

If I had known the 70mm Alpha Jet is made with EPS foam (instead of EPO), I wouldnt have bought it. But then I wouldnt have discovered how much fun you can have with this jet and how great it looks in the air (and on the ground)!



It has plenty of power to take off on short distance, complete loops with ease and rolls pretty fast as well. Even in moderate winds it darts forward effortlessly, and is stable in straights and turns. I added a 22cm carbon fibre spar in each wing and I am very happy with this modification (seen a number of videos showing a lot of wing flexing). It flies competently at moderate speed but there isnt the power on 2200mAh 4s to go fast. Landing approach is surprisingly fast so give it plenty of room.



One of the plastic landing gear mounts came loose on first landing so both should be removed and reglued with foam safe epoxy before flying. The EPS foam is brittle and I recommend taping the wing and horizontal stab tips as you are bound to scrape them at some stage.



Although this Alpha Jet is easy to fly and very forgiving, which make it an excellent trainer, it wont last long in the hand of beginners as EPS foam is not very crash resistant. On the other hand many experienced pilots will love flying this jet and will appreciate the better thrust to weight ratio from the lighter foam.
