Introducing the Durafly Tundra, No Limits flying!

From the beginner pilot to the experienced flier this plane will do it all. The Tundra is an extremely versatile plane that is easy to fly and would make an ideal club trainer whilst still being highly entertaining for the experienced pilot with aerobatics and excellent vertical performance.

Whether it is flying from rough fields, water, snow or sand, the Tundra takes on all with ease. The Tundra has a wide flight envelope making it ideal for FPV flying, aerobatics, glider towing, candy dropping or just good old-fashioned super STOL slow flying,

The tough EPO foam construction is beautifully finished with a great look. Its lightweight design coupled with a powerful brushless set-up instantly gives you a feeling of confidence on the sticks as quickly as it puts a smile on your face.

This rugged and reliable plane can also get into those tight and hard to land places with its huge flaps and extreme STOL performance. The large main wheels make it easy to land just about anywhere. Swap out the wheels for the supplied floats and you'll be flying from lakes, streams and other waterways.

A quick change to the FPV canopy will give you more extreme fun flying. More excitement can be found utilizing the built-in tow fitting for towing your friend’s gliders to the best thermals. Our upgraded Tundra Sports Model also comes with new wing connectors to minimize build time and increase the portability of this RC plane.

Simply put the Tundra is an immense amount of fun to fly and you will be flying soon enough due to a very straightforward and speedy assembly process. Just add your own power plant and servos to give all the power you want.

Some neat optional extras are the addition of skis for fun on snow. Take on the very best mother nature can throw at you and still come up smiling. With the Tundra, there are no limits!

Tunra 1.30m

Almost nice plane, it needs a battery trail inside the plane.
For the kit version, the PNFmanual is not suitable...

Best plane ever, a must have !

Aug 18, 2019

In my model club, the tundra is one of the most flown models. We have even introduced a tundra competition for 4 years. Compared to the Miltiplex FunCap, the Tundra not only looks much better. It costs only half and flies at least as well, if not better. I regularly take the Tunfra on my holiday to Denmark and fly it with every wind. https://www.schorse-video.de/index.php/news-blog/349-16-08-turndra-bixler2. For me, the tundra is my favorite model with maximum fun.

Tundra (ARF)

Jun 25, 2019

The ARF is a good buy all you need to do is install servos , 9G servo you need to remove 3mm of foam at bottom of servo as to fit and line up , make your own motor mount out of 3mm ally flat . Make sure the motor is 51mm long from rear of motor to the back of the prop , this is for prop clearance ,use a motor that meets or exceeds the requirements . I swaped out the carbon fibre prop for an APC as it will bend on a nose over, suspension is a bit soft but will bend back easy , bit of CA on the wheel hubs and tyres as not a lot of glue. Overall it is a great plane and easy to fly.

Good prop

Jun 18, 2019

Needed balancing but has lasted for at least 20 flights on my Tundra. A good substitute for the 12x6 carbon fibre prop supplied and much cheaper.

An excellent model, the best Durafly model yet.

Jun 18, 2019

I recently purchased the Durafly Tundra as a knock around model to fly off our club grass strip and off the back of my property, also grass. Both strips are a bit bumpy and the large wheels looked like a good solution to these rough surfaces. After reading other reviews I purchased the orange/grey version (maybe easier to see in the sky) and without servos, a motor, or ESC. All of these hardware items have come in for criticism, perhaps unjustified, but digital servos with metal gears seemed a better option than the cheap plastic geared servos supplied, and a more powerful motor and higher amp rated ESC seemed sensible. The motor I purchased was the Turnigy D3548/4 1100kv and the HobbyKing 60A ESC 4A SBEC. I also did not realize that a prop was supplied with the kit so I also bought a Gemfan composite propeller 12x6. I have reviewed all of these separately.
I had some issues fitting the Turnigy D3548. Basically, this motor is really too long for the space behind the cowling and I had to put small metal washers behind the 4 screw holes to shift the cowl forward about 2mm. It is clear of the cowl but only just. The forward weight of the motor also meant that the recommended CG could only be obtained by placing the battery (2200Ma 25C 3S) battery well back, in fact just in front of the rear servo bay.
The Tundra is a dream to fly. With 10mm of throw on the ailerons and elevator and about 50% expo it is quite docile with a slow rate of roll. After setting up dual rates will 22mm aileron throw the rate of roll increases dramatically and the aircraft becomes quite acrobatic, surprisingly so for a high wing model with a small amount of dihedral and semi symmetrical wings. The large wheels are a dream, especially on the roughish strips I fly off. This is the 4th Durafly model that I own (Ryan, Hurricane and Trojan T28) and there are undercarriage issues with all of them. The Ryan has weak balsa/ply undercarriage support in the wings and the metal retracts on the other two are made of very soft metal and bend after even gentle landings. Another Tundra reviewer stated that he needed to bend straight the metal undercarriage after nearly every landing but I have had no issues and although there have been a few bouncy landings the undercarriage is still undamaged and performing well. I LOVE this aircraft and can't wait to fly it with a 4S battery and try out the floats. My only negative comment is on the foam hinges on control surfaces. The rudder hinge looked almost ready to tear before I had even flown the aircraft and will need to be replaced soon. The paint is also flaking off around the engine bay with minimal handling. That is the reason for the 4 star quality rating.
