Electric Pitts ARF

Nov 14, 2007

I got mine from ebay and paid a fair bit more. Fantastically well made model that is very light yet strong. Battery access is easy through a purpose built side hatch so you don't have to remove the wings. An 1800 battery depending on brand might be to long, I went for 2 800's side by side. I opted to fit a motor on a stick mount which is an option built into the formers inside the body. My only criticism and this is a personal thing is the way the aileron servos attach to plates screwed into the wings. With such a small model I guess there really isn't any other way to do it but for me I am always worried about them failing. They haven't so far after countless flights so I guess it's OK.

AUW 480 grams ?

Nov 14, 2007

Got this little bird from a different source (not HC). Looks very nice, but... If you add up the hardware needed: 50+g motor+200g lipo+100g RC hardware = 350g. Instead of 480g my pretty bird weights 800+, flies relatively well (but fast), but the landings on our grass airfield are a horror. I replaced KD-A22L (too weak) with Turnigy 36-30 (better).

Pitts not- so -special

What a lemon...My first real let down from HC.

The model is missing its wing cabanes(alloy parts that hold the top wing on to the fuzz and the covering is lousy and doesn't match the red used to paint the cowl...which reminds me about the poor fit and shape of the cowl to fuzz...can't see myself flying this one in a hurry!

its almost flying.

I am mostly impressed. my kit came with all the parts, in fact it came with 2 pairs of the top wing mounts. it looks beautiful and is well covered, all my mates are impressed. my wife is happy with the way it looks also. I have teamed it up with a Turnigy 35-42c and apc 11x5.5e prop. there is not enough room for my batteries (too long) so i had to make up a holder to sit inside the access pannel area and leave the door off. I am new to building and think the kit needed more info about how to mount the motor, angles etc. i havent flown it without a crash and account the first 2 times to lack of information. I was unaware of the need for right and down thrust angle for the motor. even on my first attempt with a smaller motor it still went hard left. i have put about 3-4 deg down and right and it taxied straight now. it flew straight apart from my lack of foresight and i crashed again.

Construction seems quite strong and i have been able to repair it each time with plywood and pva glue.

i am making regular reports to a thread in rcgroups.com.

Average so far...

Nov 14, 2007

I've been looking for a Pitts of this size and that wasn't foam for ages, so was delighted when I came across this article. Here are my comments upon receiving it.

- Firstly, the covering seems very average quality. But especially, while the model is of a dark red base as pictured, the separate parts (aileron servo covers, side battery hatch and wing joiners are orange! Very ugly once assembled.

- There are only 4 control horns supplied, while 8 are needed, and referred in the manual (2x ailerons, rudder, elevator and 4 more to link both pairs of ailerons together).

- The biggest quirk, the 2 metal parts used to attach the upper wing to the fuselage (lower right in the article's picture) were not delivered in my package. As a result, I can not finish assembling the plane. I don't mind the servo horns, but I don't have time to start making myself some wing holding parts especially without plans.

I'm sure the plane would fly well and would really would like to fly it and complete my review, but that will require hobbycity to send me the missing parts first.
