maidened my Idol today, flew perfectly... I made some mods: reduced dihedral (1/2" at each wingtip), added 1" ailerons and an aluminum landing gear, 2210 1400KV motor, 3S 1300mAh battery, 7x4 prop... pictures under the files tab as aileron_idol
I give it 5 stars, but considering the modifications.
This is the second IDOL review, After I had an electric with some modifications made by myself, flown many times and gave the plane to a friend, I decided to buy another one and put the glow engine ap hornet 0.15. But I made almost the same modifications. I did the wing without dihedral, put two glass rod reinforcements along the stringers, added ailerons and put two pins in the middle of the front to fit in the fuselage, and a hole at the middle of the rear to insert a fastening screw. The modifications on the fuselage are, reinforced the entire nose where is the amount of the engine to the location of the landing gear, and the wing fitting
So far I only made 2 flights, with the Glow-Idol, and it was very good, I am very satisfied. The performance was close to the electric idol with FC 28-22. however feels better stability due to the higher weight. The flight weight of electric is 750grams, and the flight of glow with battery and full tank is 870gGreat little kit, easy to build, even though the "instructions" are almost useless. I reinforced the front fuselage formers with scrap ply pieces as they are a little weak without doubling up. I bought a second kit and will build it with ailerons,on rudder/elevator it flies nice but make sure you add side thrust to the motor mount. I am learning to fly with this model and so far it has been quite easy,so I would say it is a great beginners model. I left the front hatch off and the 2 or 3S 1500mah sits on velcro nicely to balance the plane, the ESC mounted on the underside of the same comartment. The motor (2200kv outrunner) blew up though,a shame as it made 115w on a 2s,and it flew nicely.I have a different motor now and it makes only 95w on a 3s,but it is enough to fly it easily, and more than 30 minutes are possible.Amazing Kit perfectly laser cut. The Parts join up like a Charm. The Final finished product is a beauty. I had mounted a Cox 0.049 with a 6x4 Prop Fuel 12pcnt Nitro, 15pcnt synthetic, 5pcnt Castor. The CG at 20pcnt it is a docile flier. Only three Channel with Rudder on Channel 1. An aileron Modification would have been great, may be later after I had a lot of fun with it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLSCl6XgL3gEasy build laser kit. Strong and sturdy holds up to the Oklahoma wind.I assembled this plane with some modifications. I made without dihedral, then took 2 pieces of balsa and made the ailerons. For flying I use four of 8g servos TGY-1800A, the engine is a FC28-22, the ESC is a Turnigy Basic 25, and the battery is 1300mAh 3S. The plane became an excellent coach, rises vertically and makes flight dorsal easily. My friends will buy it and make the same modifications. It is worth buying it.Es un avion facil de construir y muy ligero. No he podido volarlo porque se me ha roto una semiala y tengo que esperar a que traigan mas aviones para comprar otro. Por este precio merece la pena. Its a great model for the price, the manual is almost useless, but with so few parts its easy to put together. Came with no box, just a bag but no parts dameged.
I will not assemble it so soon, but it looks to have a good fit.I just finished building this airplane. I have never built an airplane before and i was truly impressed how easy this plane went together. I've uploaded a photo in the file-section, called Bare Frame.
All parts fitted well together. The hardest part (and that was easy to do) is shaping the leading edge.
The manual that comes with it is not written that well, but the pictures show more than enough to understand.
You will have some parts left at the end. I'll use them to strenghen the frame here and there.
What could be improved is adding airlerons. A modification not too difficult and it will improve handling a lot i think. After the maiden i'll let you know if it flies well.
