    Product Description

    This exciting Frsky package includes the TARANIS X9D PLUS Telemetry Radio and the top of the range, telemetry capable 16 Channel X8R receiver. In addition, it now includes the R9M long-range telemetry module. FrSky is well known for their frequency hopping ACCST technology, that takes advantage of the entire 2.4GHz band, resulting in excellent range and reliability.

     

    The TARANIS mixes the power of the “OPEN TX” open-source software with an unbelievable ergonomic case with 8 programmable switches, two twist knobs and two easy to get to lateral 'slider' pots, and not to mention the ultra-smooth quad bearing gimbals. The LCD has excellent contrast and is adjustable from blue to white. The TARANIS utilizes Voice Alerts from an internal speaker, versus just an annoying beeper. The SD card slot offers unlimited memory options and a USB port for upgrades even a headphone jack.

     

    One of the best features of the TARANIS is its full telemetry capability, as well as RSSI signal strength feedback, there are 3 different programmable failsafe modes and receiver lock, so no more crashes due to selecting the wrong model. If you have stock in other brand receivers or B&F’s, no worries the TARANIS has a JR style RF module slot, so you have the option of other brand modules such as the Orange DSM2/DSMX or Open LRS 433mhz module, or pop in another Frsky module to expand the transmitters capabilities even more with dual RF.

    I have been forced to do a step up from T9X and Taranis is a good piece of hardware. Display is awesome and it has bunch of stuff I added to my old T9X as mods.
    What I do not like is the button layout. I used to program everything directly on my T9X, that has great button layout for fast navigation in menus, but now it's much less intuitive... I know, it's a price for the screen size. And I miss potscroll so much, Taranis should have rotary encoder for scrolling... I employed OpenTX Companion because of unintuitive menu control, but it's also not that smooth I had been used to - to read/write anything you have to be in special bootloader mode and to test results restart the TX, to continue editing restart it again into bootloader... while on T9X it has been very fluent write-test-write...
    And it's not powered by USB, not at all. If battery goes out, you're done. And if unit is charging, it cannot be turned on - painful experience as I have been doing this too often with T9X (modded to be able to). I think I'll heavily mod my Taranis as well :D
    And FW update is a little bit of pain, you update fw but also need to update SD card content. Not trivial to get correct version and if you do, you still have to synchronize contents (buuuunch of tiny files), so it takes time and effort.
    But to not swear only, I totally love its ability to act as HID controller and its simplicity to be used that way - I use my TX as game controller a lot. I also like built-in battery charger, enabling/disabling internal and external RF from menu, pots with mechanical center... good TX, that's for sure!

    The Teranis Tx is designed around the popular JR casing but instead of having a scroll roller, the Teranis uses a series of buttons for programming. Long and short presses of some of these buttons control programming and model selection etc. There is an amazing amount of functions and features contained in the memory including voice commands that can be set up for most of the programmable switches.
