This large size J-3 Cub really looks the part, it comes with an extensive hardware kit that includes tough 1pc full metal scale and working bungee undercarriage, dummy engine, fuel tank & fittings and so on. The build quality of the airframe is excellent and it is expertly covered in an authentic Cub Yellow film.

Designed around a 1.20 glow, this model would also be a perfect candidate for electric flight due to it's easy access, hinged doors on both sides, making Lipoly changing a breeze. The wing is plug in as you would expect with quick fasten, authentic looking metal/wood struts. The undercarriage is superbly made and sprung using rubber bands which can be changed easily and cheaply.

This big Cub would make an ideal first large scale model as well as a good glider tug, it is robust yet light, practical yet good looking, take it from us, we know a thing or two about model Cubs! There is an awful lot of model plane here for the money and with the right set up, build cost will also be low, no doubt about it, this J-3 is a steal!

My J3 Cub just arrived yesterday, and i just had to open the box to make sure it was undamaged. First impression is that its a very high quality kit. For the money you cant go wrong. It's bigger than it looks and will be very impressive out on the field. Have ordered an ASP FS120 and HXT 10kg metal gear servos for it. Will post some pictures as i start the build.

I have ordered one of these beauties. It will have the 160 brushless in it running on 6s lipo power. Should be powerful enough. Keep you posted

Overall this gets 4 1/2 stars, only because of how well this flies. I have an ASP 91 4 stroke engine powering my Cub. The main wheels are terrible as is the tail wheel assembly. Get new ones of better quality. As with the other reviews the cowl and windscreen color is much darker than the covering but at 100 or so feet in the air this isn't noticeable. Main gear needs some longer bolts with self-locking nuts as the ones given will loosen after 2 or 3 flights. And, where can I get those rubber bands for the gear?

Finally got it completed and flew the Maiden flight. It is a very easy ground handler with no tendancy to ground loop on rollout. Takes very little right rudder for a straight track on take off. The ailerons and elevator is fairly responsive and do not require large throws. Very stable in flight with a mild wing drop at stall with full up elevator. It recovers easily and quickly. Even though this model is 12.5 pounds (5600 g) it glides forever when you cut power. Easy landings either with no power or slight power applied. Elevator and ailerons remain effective even at slow landing speed. I run this with a G110 electric brushless motor, a 60A ESC and a 6 cell 5000mah LiPo. Draws 23A (550W) with this setup and flys scale like. If you want lots of performance run a 8 cell LiPo with this setup and it will give you 38A at (1173 W). Lots of work to complete this ARF but overall its well worth the effort and you end up with a scale looking plane with great flight characteristics.

This kit is fantastic, with opening doors on both sides, there's plenty of room for cameras. Looking forward to getting this big bird in the air.

Well as I get into the assembly of this ARF (I agree with the other post- its much more assembly than the normal ARF) I find that it is very incomplete. My Plane is missing Assembly instruction sheets, There was no horns or clevises for the control surfaces, No bolts for the landing gear even though the blind nuts were pre installed, No screws to attach the cowl, No extra hinge for the rudder to fuselage. Although the pushrod tubes were pre-installed there were no pushrods or cable for the pull-pull rudder. Also the cowl and windscreen were painted a much darker yellow than the covering. The tiny little .40 size tailwheel was unusable and the Main Wheels were bomber style and hard as a rock, and way to small for this model - again unusable. Most significant is Hobby King is ignoring me on how to get this remedied.

As I mentioned in the discussion section this is a beautiful Cub and very nice workmanship throughout. The manufacturer quality is lacking especially in packing. This particular ARF did not have any plans sheet or photos, The magnets and hardware for the doors were missing all together, The wire that connects the elevator halves together was missing as well. The wing tube fits very loosly in the tube installed in the fuselage. The painted cowl and trim on the windscreen are much darker yellow than the shrink covering and looks bad. The supplied wheels are very hard and unusable. This will be flown with a Turnagy G110 brushless and 6 cell LiPo. Ill post a flying review in a few days.

Anyone know where i can purchase a wing set or the front cowl for this beauty?, Mines seem to have met the ground in an unforseen aeriel display ;(
Tried reglassing the cowl but still not happy with it.
