Wow Amazing, recommendef for n

Nov 14, 2007

This kits is easy to build, the step-by-step in manual guide also clear and usefull. This is my first GWS, in my opinion this one is very recommender for beginner like me. My maiden is successfull, controlling was responsif, and most important is crash tolerance.

GWS DHC-2 Beaver

Nov 14, 2007

This is a good choice for a first plane. I am biased a bit: I learned myself to flay on this plane (first was a p51d from Guan-Li, no good choice for a beginner). If balanced and trimmed right it will fly very stable and you will have fun with it while getting things down. If flies nice and slow, allowing for quite a few mistakes without loosing too much altitude. Landings need a paved area as the thin wheels will trip in grass that is not trimmed every day. If you upgrade with one of those towerpro combos elsewhere on this site, you will have more power than needed and it will still balance right. (go for a low kv one like the 2410-9T with the 1047 prop).

Do not (like me) succumb to the desire for a warbird, you need more experience for those if you are a novice. This plane got me in the air all by myself without the hassle of flying clubs, instructors or whatnot. If I can do it, you might be able too.

Mine weighted ~450 grams (500 including floats) with the 150C gears and a 1000mAh NiMH battery. The 280 grams quoted make me wonder how they would get it balanced? You could use a 24 gram blue hextronic motor with a 1000 or 620mAh 3 cell Lipo and a 8040 prop, but you would need to improvise to put the battery as much forward as possible. even with 500 grams and a geared prop, it will ROG in less than 3 meters though.

Oh and a last thing: get some extra props and a propsaver. That will keep you flying through most crashes.

Good for Beginners

Nov 14, 2007

This is a nice plane and the standard motor provided is quite adequate for a nice flight. I would go with a 2 cell lipo or a 7 cell pack for good flights and also buy a GWS motor shaft and some gears and props along with the order.

GWS Beaver

Very well flying. For beginners. Go slow but fairly sensitive so take care on the sticks!

With a speed 300 & 2.75:1 and 8X4.3 prop it flies a little faster.

A little football yard is all that is required.

Excellent Trainer Plane

Nov 14, 2007

This is an excellent first plane for a beginner. I gave up RC 4 yrs ago because I felt it was all too hard with frequent crashes. Later a friend advised me to get this as it was more suited for a beginner.

Indeed the response is gentle and doesn't require extreme reflexes. Great for learning the basics and control. If you're frustrated with repeated expensive crashes, give this one a try.

I coupled it with a BL GS CS28-26-16 motor and 3S 1050mah lipo combo. This helps to fight against moderate winds and allows training flights to be better controlled. I strongly recommend going brushless.
