Il prototipo Stearman PT-13 Kaydet due posti biplano primo volo da Wichita, Kansas nel mese di ottobre 1934. Equipaggiata con Lycoming R-680 motori radiali, i primi formatori, designati PT-13s, sono stati consegnati alla Air Corps degli Stati Uniti a metà del 1936 insieme con più aerei nel 1937 e 1938. nel 1940 la domanda per il formatore è aumentato rapidamente e superato la capacità di Lycoming a fornire i motori. . L' avion est décevant en vol. Nous avons ajouté du plomb à l' avant car il semblait centré arrière.Il vole de façon bizarre, la queue basse, on le maîtrise mal, comme s' il n' était pas bien centré ? ? Nous avons choisi comme accu les 2200 mais il serait préférable de choisir les 3000., pour obtenir plus de durée de vol. Résultat les atterrissages ne se font pas bien, l' avion finit par passer sur le nez. On ne sait pas ce qu'il faut faire pour obtenir une meilleure qualité de vol ,
The description says there are dual carbon spars in each wing. Mine came with fiberglass spars which are not rigid enough and the wings flex like they are made of rubber. I suspect it will not last long at this rate. A minor point - the PT17 used by the Army Air Corp only came with 9 cylinder engines, this kit has a nicely detailed 7 cylinder engine. Still quite attractive though.The kit arrived very fast from Oregon. While assembling it I found the instructions to be of little value, since they were mainly just pictures. ( the quality of the pictures was not too good either) The assembly is fairly straight forward for anyone who has put together a foamy before. I found the following faults with the kit. The holes in the control horns were too large for the clevises. I drilled a smaller hole in each of the horns midway between the second & third holes. This gave me a nice smooth control movement without any slop. There was no mention of cg location, but I calculated it to be between 2.5" & 3.2" measured back from the leading edge of the top wing. I set mine at about 2.8" and it took 2 ounces of lead in the nose to balance. At this cg it flew fine. Control throws were set at about 3/8" on ailerons & elevator with 50pcnt expo and seemed to be about the right amount. With those throws the roll rate is pretty slow and scale like.
The assembly of the N struts on the right wing caused a warp in the top wing which caused a serious left roll on the maiden flight. I was able to trim it out with aileron trim.
The airplane is very scale looking and fly's well after being trimmed out.
Ken Turnerin January 2014 I wrote to say there where no spares available for this airplane , we are now in march 2015 and still no spares, does anyone at hobby king read these reviews and takes notice.. I think notI have just bought my second on after a mysterious loss of control and write off with my first one. I agree with others that it is good value but they are assembled to a low price and to make a good job of them some additional work is needed to make a much more durable and nicer plane. Foam is very strong.
Undercarriage is very weak for grass strips and caused a lot breakages on landing with my first one. The fairings broke at the top where they hit the fuselage.
I have done the following:
Epoxy glassed the lower part of the fuselage around the undercarriage. This make it more robust and prevents the undercarriage fairings puncturing the fuselage. I have also formed a pad of silicone between the fairings and the fuselage a bit like the old rubber Mini Minor suspension to. I reinforced the top of the undercarriage fairings with epoxy.
Added wing rigging like the full size. So much stronger and looks far better.
Replaced clevises as these were very poor.
Touched up poor paint job on the wings.
Replaced the screws in the rudder and elevator servos as these were loose and could not be tightened and would probably have failed.
Added 110grams of lead as far forward as possible in the nose.
Maidened it today with excellent results. Climbing under full power was very controllable with slight down trim. Undercarriage did 5 grass landings with no problems.
I am now very happyI've had this aircraft for a few months now and enjoyed the flying its actually a nice easy plane to fly up until today. The last time i had it up I noticed at one stage I couldn't achieve any elevator control for a few seconds and put it down to a glitch. Bad mistake. It happened again today after the second flight and this time I had just come out of the top of a roll and was doing a slight downward slow spin, when I couldn't again achieve any elevator control. This time it lasted as long as it took the aircraft to hit the ground (throttle at zero by this stage to hopefully slow its decent). Anyway after inspecting the bits I did notice that the rudder control rod had somehow crossed over the top of the elevator clevis and I suspect had been sufficient to stop the throw of the elevator. So please check your out before you start flying. Have no idea how it managed to do that although they do run very close to each other and it may have been just one of those unlucky things that happen as a result of some acro.Top Modell. Motor zieht laut Amperemeter 50-55 A. Aus meiner Sicht 60 A Regler erforderlich. Fliege mit Lipoly 4S 3.300 40C. Musste trotzdem 170 Gramm Blei unter Motorhaube anbringen. Gesamtfluggewicht nun 2100 Gramm. Habe 60 A Regler verbaut.
Propeller belassen, aber unbedingt auswuchten. Keine neuen Scharniere angebracht.
Grsser Rder 8,5 cm Durchmesser wegen schlecht gemhtem Flugplatz. Schwerpunkt lsst sich sehr leicht kontrollieren. 7 cm hinter der oberen Nasenleiste Fingerpositionieren. Wenn Flieger in Waage, ok. Lsst sich sehr gut fliegen. Motor aus meiner Sicht Sau stark.Plane came to me in five working days , double boxed and no damage. Assembly took about 3 hours using epoxy on all parts. The scale look was excellent and the paint job was done well. Looked at all reviews prior to assembly and adding 2.5 oz. of weight to inside of engine cowl was spot on and with a 3000 14.8 v. cell C.G. correct. I was surprised of the total weight of the finished plane but I knew that it being a bi-plane it should have plenty of lift. was surprised that the pilot figures were heavy and some weight could be saved had they been hollow . First test flight on short grass with a 10-15 mph wind was no problem. Once in the air I gave it full throttle and I was happy with the power and speed. Flying around at 50pcnt throttle no problem. With the plane on the heavy side wind was no problem and landing on short grass was easy.Very nice looking on the ground and in the air. Highly Recommend this Plane for a nice Flier.THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TWO AND ONE HALF GRAMS AND OUNCES...WHICH ONE DO YOU MEAN????? I THINK YOU MEANT OUNCES...Just receive mine. DON'T USE THE GLUE THAT COMES WITH THE KIT! It's awfull! I started using normal epoxy glue, later decided to try the kit's glue in tail... Bad results! Ugly, and impossible to adjust the position of the peaces. Put normal hinges, will install UBEC to avoid problems with ESC heating. Interesting model, but really angry with glue results!
