Hornby Railways is a British model railway brand that dates back to the early 1900's. Over this time it has become a household name and has consistently made high quality and highly detailed model railway products for beginners and the serious model enthusiast.

Designed to replace the Wolverhampton '517' class on light branch line duties, Charles Collett's 1928 0-4-2T 4800 Class were of a broadly similar design, but with modern refinements. Locomotive No. 1424 was built at Swindon in November 1933 to Lot No. 279, entering service as No. 4824 at Fishguard Goodwick shed, remaining there until at least July 1938. Post-war, the locomotive was renumbered to 1424 and spent much of its working life around Gloucester. In December 1963 No. 1424 was withdrawn from Gloucester Horton Road and was disposed of the following June.

The Hornby model of this workhorse locomotive is supplied in standard DC form. It is fitted with a powerful Type 7 electric motor, can negotiate 1st radius curves easily and is perfect for pulling suburban passenger coaches. The Hornby RailRoad collection provides a perfect entry into the exciting world of 00 gauge railway modelling. Designed to be less easily damaged, yet maintaining attractive detailing and accurate liveries, the range is ideal for both the younger enthusiast and experienced modeller.
