It flys well, but needs a very good toss to get flying. Couldn't get it to take off.

What could have been a very nice looking model is ruined by some of the worst stickers and the worst sticker "job" you could imagine. And don't think that you can just remove them and replace with your own. Thy are so brittle that they cant be removed and the adhesive is extremely strong. This almost ready to fly model will take a lot of work before it is airworthy. The biggest advice I could give to the manufacturer is to leave the stickers off and let the modeler put them on if they so chose to do so. The EDF unit is a bit lacking and should be replaced with something a bit stronger. The balance on this model is also quite critical. Don't bother with the landing gear. Catapult or hand launch the model. Install a good belly skid for landing.

I received my MIG 15 a couple of days ago and proceeded to assemble the model. There really isnt too much work to do as most of the hard stuff is done for you. The wings are fitted onto a strong sparr that makes the very rigid and is held in place with two screws each side. I decided to reinforce this with epoxy glue as I have no entention of removing the wings. The tail stabilizer fits onto a similar spar of which I epoxied as well. All set up with 70pcnt rates with 10pcnt expo. Set C of G to the amount in the manual, (this was downloaded from Hobbyking as a pdf). It is taken from the nose of aircraft and measured back to 10" to 11". I set my balance a little to the rearmost setting. I had to add a little stick on weights to achieve the C of G. Also, the Batterys im using are 1600mah 3s rating 20 to 30c. . Today was a little too windy for test flying with a good 20 to 30 mph gusts of wind. However, me being me, I still gave her the Maiden flight. She climbed out strait and true from a hand launch, pulling strong into the wind. No trimming required as all controls set level on assembly.. This model is a beauty. No bad tendancies, flys like a baby, so smooth in the air and Im hooked. She has enough power to look the part of a 1950s jet and holds a prescence in the air. Also, she held her line well considering the windy conditions. I gave her approx 3 mins of flight then decided to

It would be a pitty if HK uncontinues this model !!
it's allready removed in Euro warehouse.... and last models in International Wh...
I love it a lot, in fact I just bought 2 more... for spare...
Has some issues... first the motor is xxxx.... max 10 to 15 flights it will burn out...
but if you exchange the Motor with a 4000 to 4800 Outrunner... it last's...
then you need just to replace the Fan with the cheap 64HK Edf only...
on 3s 1800 ballances fine.. also 3s2200 OK if moved back as far as possible in the batterie tray.. with 4000UpV about 20A.. 420025A... 480030 A
and you need to glue the Stabilizer a little "nose down trim..."
Then its a very nice flying plane ! And forgt the landing gear....
Would be nice to get more models like this, HK should just fix the motor issue...
And then it's a good plane. my favorit..

This is a beautiful aircraft and flies very nicely. There are three areas to be aware of that need attention:
- You must cutout the floor of the cockpit to allow the battery to fit properly.
- The elevator pushrod will flex reducing the elevator travel. You can correct this with a small piece of wood glued into the fuselage behind the servo.
- Mine suffered a catastrophic crash when the horizontal stabilizer snapped in flight precisely at the end of the reinforcing tube. Suggest adding a carbon fiber extension to prevent this.

I've bought 4 planes from Hobbyking, and have been pleased with all of them except this Mig-15. The foam is very brittle. Not the nice EPO foam of Durafly planes. The tail is made of foam like from an elementary school cafeteria tray. The plane has no rudder, and VERY little pitch control authority - the elevators are way to small. Battery compartment is laughably small. Had to cut out the plastic from the canopy to get it the battery to fit. The control rods for the elevators go through little tubes within body all the way up to the front of the plane where the servo is. These tubes had to be widened so that the control rods could move freely. Plane seemed really underpowered. Felt like it was going to stall the whole time. Couldn't even do a loop. Ruined one of my batteries, a 2200mAh 35C Turnigy nanotech. Gets a couple crowns because it does fly. And it sounds kind of cool.

As with many other modellers I also have had a motor burn out within 12 flights. Investigating the cause on the internet seems to indicate that the motor is of poor quality and is prone to burn out. My motor not only burnt out it got so hot in the process that it distorted the fan unit so I had nothing that I could rebuild on to make a new plane. On further investigation I began to wonder if part of the problem is due to the installation of the motor and the ESC. These units a bound together using a very thick clear shrink tube and this material covered more than 75pcnt of the motor cooling vanes. If I was to buy another (which I wont) I would be inclined to remove this shrink material and find another way to support the ESC. What I would do is use 3 bamboo canes pierced through the outer skin and settle them onto the ESC. If anyone does try this proposal I would be pleased to hear the result. In my view Hobbyking and Art Tech are equally responsible for a poor design and a poor quality motor.

absolute best edf i have flown and seen. weather finally let up after a couple months of waiting, and this flew like a charm. 3rd flight, a tree hopped out of no where and grabbed it. but in the end, there was no damage after 25ft of tree.

The elevator servo shaft flexed is the housing, replaced with Tower Pro MG90S. It's EXTREMELY under powered. The elevators are much to small for responsive flight. The ESC (which is placed directly behind the fan.. worse placement ever) survived for exactly 54 seconds of flight before it smoked (ZIPPY Flightmax 2200mAh 3S1P 20C).

For the good- Very easy build. Looks amazing in flight. Very stable, and tough. The EDF is balanced perfectly, and sounds awesome.

I plan to upgrade the plane for a 4 cell battery and enlarge the elevators.
